The US today warned thatPakistanfaces a "serious" threat from theTalibanand offered its assistance to fight againstterrorismafter the recent attacks inKarachi.

"There is no doubt that the threat of violent extremism in Pakistan, including the TTP, is serious," a State Department Spokesperson told PTI.

The people of Pakistan have suffered greatly at the hands of terrorists and violent extremists, the official said, adding that Pakistan continues to lose many police, soldiers and civilians.

"The US stands with Pakistan in this struggle and we remain engaged with the government of Pakistan on this issue. Certainly the United States and Pakistan have a common enemy and a common cause in the fight against violent extremism and we will continue to work with Pakistan as it combats extremism and violence," the State Department Spokesperson said.

"We have a strong ongoing dialogue with Pakistan regarding all aspects of our bilateral relationship and shared interests, including security and counter-terrorism cooperation and we work together to address these concerns," said the official.

The State Department Spokesperson stressed that the United States and Pakistan continue to have a vital, shared and strategic interest in ending terrorism and in the pursuit of a stable, peaceful, and prosperous region.

The official's comments came after the Pakistani Taliban confirmed that Uzbek militants took part in the deadly assault on Karachi's international airport that killed at least 39 people.

Ten Uzbek militants entered the Jinnah International Airport on Sunday night from different directions in two groups, resulting in a bloody standoff lasting for about 13 hours.

A day after the assualt, Taliban militants attacked a training camp of the Airport Security Force outside Karachi international airport, but fled after Pakistani forces repulsed the assault.

Its all a narrative build up. If I was a Pakistani, I would be very worried. The trend is for all to see across the Muslim world in last few years.

13 years and people here are fed up. The thing is wherever AQ has taken strong hold, there has always been rampant sectarianism at govt level. That is absent from our land. Although some sects are targeted, but its by the TTP types not the general public as we dont care.

So it's only up and up from here.

CIA wants some cookie points.............. for all of their failures back home......... this 'obvious' forecast will help increase their budget! :D

USA , you want to help us ? give us some Apache or Cobra's ... we need it .. and kick the mullah fazal ullah *** in Afghanistan .. we will take care of his gay buddies here

When will USA gift us democracy? They all ready did to Iraq, Libya, Afghanistan, Vietnam, Korea, Cambodia and Philippines.

good post

Both the people of Afghanistan and Pakistan reject extremists

US is friend of Pakistan...Pakistanis must realize this.

In international politics no one is your enemy and no one is your 'friend' its just common interest or threats..... plz point me out common Pakistan-US interest from midterm and to longterm (I emphasize from midterm to long term) .......

There is imminent threat in US that there might be shooting at some school , proceed with caution

WRONG!! There is international politics and there is national security. When you make friends per the politics, then your friendship is governed by the mutual interests (like India and US for example). But then there is friendship that is strategic and revolved around national security (similar to Israel and America and to some degree, Pakistan and America). I know some people are going....how come we are in the same league as the Israelis.....you are not. However, the relationship is based on national security of the US, which in this case of terrorism is tied with the national security of Pakistan as Pakistan is our front line ally.
I know there is a lot of suspicious about the US involvement. The US is a bigger country and she'll always be watching out for her interests. In the case of Pakistan with over 200 million strong population.....what do you guys think is in the US's interest? An uncontrollable growth of terrorists or a stable Pakistan where no terrorist poses a threat to the US?
Its the later. How do we get there? By ensuring Pakistan is a peaceful and secured country first. Who can do it? NOT the American public. The Pakistanis have to create a safer country and understand that there is a better life for everyone with financial stability and growth and WITHOUT any bomb blasts and violence. In this effort to get to a more stable Pakistan, the US has and will support you. Let's put conspiracy theories on the side and use this relationship to the max in getting rid of terrorism and in getting Pakistan to a better state economy, society and peace wise.

If the US truly want to help pakistan then they should give us or lend military equipment. No money.

What are your thoughts about US interest in this region .... let say 2016-2030 .... ???
terrorism is one issue falls under the category of midterm common objectives, so its will provide common ground for the next couple of years but after that ..... ???

& sorry I don't like the fairytales of super whit human fighting for the freedom of the world against the axis of evil ....

What a fun , America and it'e allies created TTP to twist the arm of Pakistan to carry out it's agenda . Peoples of Pakistan stood with their armed force's against american pupet's in power in Pakistan and Insha allah will succeed . No doubt still we will have to bleed more and people's are getting some sense .
