Expressing concern over Pakistan’s evolving “tactical nuclear weapons” doctrine, a top American spymaster on Tuesday warned about the increasing risks of an “incident” associated with the growing nuclear arsenal.

“Pakistan’s nuclear weapons continues to grow. We are concerned that this growth, as well as the evolving doctrine associated with tactical weapons, increases the risk of an incident or accident,” Defence Intelligence Agency Director Vincent Stewart told the Senate Armed Services Committee.

“Islamabad continues to take steps to improve its nuclear security, and is aware of the threat presented by extremists to its programs,” Stewart said in his testimony.

A Congressional report in January had estimated Pakistan’s nuclear warheads to be between 110-130 and that they are aimed at deterring India from taking military action against it

“Pakistan’s nuclear arsenal probably consists of approximately 110-130 nuclear warheads, although it could have more,” the Congressional Research Service said in the report.

Stewart also said Pakistan will face internal security threats from militants and separatist groups this year.

Islamic State’s branch in Afghanistan-Pakistan and al-Qaeda in the Indian subcontinent will remain significant security concerns for Islamabad, he said.

“Counter-insurgency operations along Pakistan’s Western border and paramilitary operations in Karachi have had some success in reducing violence and are likely to continue,” Stewart said.

These Americans are bloody jokers. Sitting on top of worlds largest nuclear arsenal and yet talking about security of others. Their concerns warnings are useless as Pakistan will not compromise on their minimum dterence policy. Americans are the most stupid global power to inhabit this planet. I would take India or China as major power over these born jokers any time.

If Modi stops taking species or if India gives up the cold start doctrine then this stockpile can be reduced.

But clearly first thing won't happen so its down to India to change cold start into full stop. Otherwise more news like these will keep troubling Indian policymakers

“Pakistan’s nuclear weapons continues to grow. We are concerned that this growth, as well as the evolving doctrine associated with tactical weapons, increases the risk of an incident or accident,”

Don't worry the weapons are in good care and made professionally for deterrence.

“Islamabad continues to take steps to improve its nuclear security, and is aware of the threat presented by extremists to its programs,”

Exactly and more steps will be taken towards fool proof security after all weapons are still safe despite conspiracies to disarm Pakistan.

“Pakistan’s nuclear arsenal probably consists of approximately 110-130 nuclear warheads, although it could have more,”

Yes it should be more due to continues threat of our enemy but would you please express how many does posses US for what, is she planned to eliminate the earth from universe.

Stewart also said Pakistan will face internal security threats from militants and separatist groups this year

You know the future threats so we do and we are arranging proper treatments for that too but indeed it will hurt proxies lovers.

Islamic State’s branch in Afghanistan-Pakistan and al-Qaeda in the Indian subcontinent will remain significant security concerns for Islamabad, he said

Those are indeed the fruits of your friendship but we are dealing with it properly so will eliminate fully, sooner. However, Indian Subcontinent is a headache so allow us to deal with it as well or Indian weapons are already at danger to be taken over by her own issues.

“Counter-insurgency operations along Pakistan’s Western border and paramilitary operations in Karachi have had some success in reducing violence and are likely to continue,” Stewart said.

Yes indeed and more will be witnessed.

Side note: US, why not to ask India to reduce the threat, obsession and hatred towards Pakistan so the number of weapons could be reduced.

Why can't someone from Pakistan raise the question of the fact that there is a complete silence in the international western media on Israel's nukes and weapons of mass destruction, not only there is a complete silence but the west specifically the United States knowing that they have nukes instead of putting sanctions continues to provide them with more military funds, resources and arms them to the teeth.

Lets also not forget that the US have also agreed to provide Nuclear technology and help to the Indians while they just like us have not signed the NPT, on one hand they are putting pressure on our Nukes while with the other they are arming the Indians.

Why aren't these questions and the hypocrisy of the west not highlighted by our so called "diplomats" in the international level?

India introduced nuclear weapons in the region. They invaded a sovereign country in 1971 ..and yet they are stockpiling material now to make hydrogen bombs and yet they are concerned about Pakistan ...lol

Why the hypocrisy with Pakistan ??

lets also talk about India's growing arsenal. Its already fallen into the hands of certified criminals.

Challakere, India — When laborers began excavating protected pastureland in India’s southern Karanataka state in 2012, members of the nomadic Lambani tribe were startled. For centuries, the scarlet-robed herbalists and herders had freely crisscrossed the undulating meadow there, known as kavals, and this uprooting of their rich landscape came without warning or explanation.

By autumn, Puttaranga Setty, a wiry groundnut farmer from Kallalli, encountered a barbed wire fence blocking off a well-used trail. His neighbor, a herder, discovered that the road from this city to a nearby village had been diverted elsewhere. They rang Doddaullarti Karianna, a weaver who sits on one of the village councils that funnel India’s sprawling democracy down to the grass roots.

india's Cold Start doctrine is a canard. It's unrealistic given that India doesn't have the resources to move that many troops rapidly into Pakistan. Let's leave it as a theory.

Cold Start has nothing to do with Pakistan's nuclear doctrine and no impact on its "strategic" stockpile. May impact tactical weapons, but is Pakistan even willing to give up these weapons? I don't think so.

We will continue to build the nukes for our own safety. Do something to stop us. Talk is cheap.

As for Americans, keep voting Trump. You are about to become the greatest nation on the planet.

No sir we shouldn't link reduction of stockpile with the condition associated with giving up cold start doctrine. We threw cold start doctrine in arabian sea forever with tactical stockpile.
If world is too much concerned about danger of Nuclear conflict, then why they are deaf as far as root cause of conflict between Pakistan and India is concerned.
Root cause is the unfinished agenda of Partition .....Indian Occupied Kashmir.
Resolve this issue , we are ready for friendship with our neighbours.

having concerns about anything is a natural thing..I also have concerns about the plugs used in my house..lose wires can start a fire..he also appreciated the growing security and risk management on behalf of Pakistan....

Indians skewing the headlines to serves their own thinking is poor grade of trolling..

Even rag tag terrorist have more expertise than India as demonstrated in 26/11 and Pathankot attacks..

You think the Americans are jokers? The concerns are pretty damn valid. Where else have you seen multiple attacks on the Military HQ's, airbases, airports, civilian and military infrastructure, schools, etc? I can assure you, if the terrorism is eroded and these attacks end, over a year or so, this sentiment will change. Pakistan is dealing with a serious issue so any concern with regards to the terrorism is very well justified. The sooner this cancer of terrorism is totally eliminated, the better it is for Pakistan's future.

The US was 'concerned' about Pakistani nuclear weapons before terrorism.

How about mentioning Israeli nuclear weapons?

Pakistani nukes are attracting foreign attention due to following reasons:

1. Terrorism
2. Conflict with India (another nuclear power)
3. Undefined nuclear policy
4. Increase in the number of nukes with passage of time

---

Nuclear weapons attract attention irrespective of who possesses them. There is a global initiative against the spread of nuclear weapons.
