Aiming to strengthen its ties with countries in the Asia-Pacific region, the US has said it wants to actively support India's Look East policy and is committed to broader, deeper and more purposeful ties with it.

"Our ability to build a successful regional architecture will turn on our ability to work effectively with the emerging powers, countries like Indonesia, or India, Singapore, New Zealand, Malaysia, Mongolia, Vietnam, Brunei, and the Pacific Island countries," Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said in her remarks at the East-West Center in Honolulu, Hawaii.

As such the US is making a concerted effort to build closer and more extensive partnerships with all these nations, she said.

"India and Indonesia in particular are two of the most dynamic and significant democratic powers in the world, and the United States is committed to broader, deeper, more purposeful relations with each. And we want to actively support India's Look East policy as it grows into an Act East policy," Clinton said.

From the very beginning, the Obama administration embraced the importance of the Asia Pacific region, she said.

Clinton said that so many global trends point to Asia --it is home to nearly half the world's population, it boasts several of the largest and fastest-growing economies and some of the world's busiest ports and shipping lanes, and it also presents consequential challenges such as military build-ups, concerns about the proliferation of nuclear weapons, natural disasters, and the world's worst levels of greenhouse gas emissions.

It is understandable for India "Look East" policy due to the tactic and strategy of its neighbor who was started encircle India. In returned, India has more supported by countries when its asked and latest country is Afghanistan. To me, India made a right picked to choose Afghanistan on her side.

now its high time for India to get state of the art weapons technology from USA,they surely can use some money and we can learn from there technology to develop our future weapons !

WIN-WIN situation for both of us !
It will be no surprise if they offer F-22 around 2020 !

Time has really changed now they are realizing the importance of India !

Not to mention Vietnam's timely friendship which is strategically important for both our countries in military cooperation together so that South and Southeast Asia can remain peaceful. :). There must be a Joint Security Policy that must be drafted between Vietnam and India. We both are the only countries capable of handling regional dangers in the region. Japan also can but they aren't in danger right now of a war right now.

And it makes sense too...The reason is that west of india consisting of Muslim nations...and in very acute scenario too...every one will be with Pakistan in case of any crisis...but if you look towards east...at least religion will not be a factor for a relationship...rather on economy and mutual benefit, relations can be expanded.....And eastern part of India is economically prosperous than the western side...so its not a bad strategy either...

Not support but it is actually America which is formulating India's look east forigen policy as confessed by Hillary. To advance its own goals of countering China rise.

Do you know the year India formulated its look east policy ? 1991. India and US did not have warm relations then and they were in no position to influence our policies then.

SHHHH!!! Ignorance is bliss....

P.s: They cant take it that their mortal enemy is NOT going to sell their MOTHERland to another for a bit of power. It makes their country seem almost , well............

India needs to urgently plan and meet the requirements of the Navy.. Because without a real strong navy capable enough of operating on both the coasts along with across malacca straits, all our policies will end up being useless...

A decent word spoken by a strong man has much much more effect than a strong word spoken by a weakling.....

Great news -- US has a lot of influence around the globe and has a lot of state of art weapon system. Recently NATO proposed a ballistic missile defence system I think India should not miss the opportunities but we need to learn how to do that silently and quietly -- "A peaceful rise"

even if Aryan is true, what loss does India have? We get the latest modern weapons... and we won't fight China only because USA wants us to... But I'm sure that with better weaponry, we will be much better prepared for any such eventuality!!! WIN-WIN !!!!
