US troops imitate invasion of Iran with Arab allies

Published: 29 May, 2012, 19:33

Around 12,000 troops from more than 19 nations are wrapping up a massive military training drill in the Middle East. But for some of those servicemen, these exercises might be just the beginning of something much bigger to come.

The United States, Saudi Arabia, and Jordan are just a sampling of the many countries — along with European allies — that have been involved in the nearly month-long Eager Lion 2012 exercise expected to end this week. Although much of the drills have been kept under wraps, it isn’t a secret that these states have spent the last month cooperating together through mock combat drills and comprehensive training. Some sources overseas report, however, that as many as 3,000 troops aligned with US forces have conducted a simulated landing and attack on Iran, preparing America and its allies for a war that becomes more likely by the day.

Intelligence sources speaking to Israel’s Debka news agency report that US troops and other forces aligned with America recently staged a landing on a Jordanian beach that was immediately followed by a military seizure of fortified mountain bases and command posts. The exercise was meant to emulate an attack on Iran and accompanies other drills that witnesses say show off just what America’s foes face if they continue to put the heat on the United States and its pals abroad.

Speaking of a drill assumed to be a mockup of a raid on Syria, Major General. Awni el-Edwan, Chief of staff of the Jordanian Operations and Training Armed Forces, says, “The exercise is not connected to any real world event,” reports CNN. “This has nothing to do with Syria. We respect the sovereignty of Syria. There is no tension between the Syrians and us. Our objectives are clear.”

Others, however, say that the intentions of the Eager Lion 2012 drills are obvious.

Gen. James Mattis, head of the US Central Command, visited both sections of the exercise led by American troops in Jordan, adds Debka. Should the US officially attack either Syria or Iran, Gen. Mattis will be the head of the military forces there. Additionally, intelligence sources speaking with the Israeli outlet reveal that Gen. Mattis has recently sought approval from US President Barack Obama to deploy a third aircraft carrier to the Middle East to increase America’s presence.

The United States currently has two massive aircraft carriers in the Persian Gulf area, both the USS Abraham Lincoln and USS Enterprise, and CNN adds in their report that the Air Force has sent six of the stealth F-22 fighter jets to the neighboring United Arab Emirates.

The US is believed to be engaged in exercises involving the Navy and Air Force in operations on the land, air and sea, with the US Special Operations troops also working in tandem with Jordanian special forces units in counterterrorism to put both teams on the same page.

Debka reports that, during Eager Lion 2012, a command post was also established by around 700 US Marines onboard the USS New York amphibious transport dock that was stationed in the Red Sea. The entire exercise there, they say, was “clearly visible” to observers in a neighboring Israeli port. Only days earlier, Debka reported that Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak told his country that “all options remain on the table” involving an attack on Iran, and that the Jewish state will strike first if necessary, even without the assistance of American forces.

"There is no need to tell us what to do, and we have no reason to panic. Israel is very, very strong, but we do know that the Iranians are accomplished chess players and will try to achieve nuclear capabilities,” said Barak.

No doubt these are the 15000 odd American troops that landed for exercises with Israel about a month back. Shame on those Arab countries that play these war games intended to threaten and kill Muslims. Is this why that monstrosity Abdullah suggested last week he wanted to lead Arabs and Muslims around the world so he can deliver all Muslims as slaves to Americans and Israelis just so his family can continue in their hedonistic life style

Sh*t when will Muslims on both sides of the divide realize that we're just getting toyed with because of our own stupidity and irrational, though perhaps understandable, aversion to each other ! For god'sake wisen up or we'd spend the next hundred years as slaves too....!

Can someone tell me what can Jordan do in a possible war with Iran?!!
Let them do all these war games,it won't do them any good. After all they are Arabs, they haven't won any war in past 200 years.

Well they could be cheer leaders for American and Israeli soldiers. They wear skirts anyway. Just need a few pom poms

Dont generalise muslims here ...
There is no use saying "against muslims" as a whole, when muslims themselves are not united..
SA and Iran have become sworn enemies... So SA will do, what it thinks best...
SA and iran are not enemies its just their leader hate our leader because ours talk about freedom of people (even in syria)while their leader not so much supporter of freedom
so they hate us we wont attack them or whatever we know who did all this all these problem are because of US and Israel so pointed guns against those who responsible why wasting time of SA and other Muslim .
just look we've been silent from the 1979 while they helped iraq (big amount of money even troops) they sponsored terrorist in ahwaz bought some land to do what israel did in Palestine they claim to own iranian island yet again we sent tourist no ban on them.really what we did exactly to deserve that?helping arabs to liberate Palestine? helping them to sell oil in higher price
US helped them they have tech because they have to stand against us what else they want?

Simulated war with Iran may not be the same thing as the real war with Iran.

Well to be fair judging by the Arabs and the Iranians on this forum there appears to be little love lost between 'the People' on either side of the divide !

Mate you are wrong. If you check my old posts you will find that when I have spoken of peace and brotherhood on the forum between Arabs and Iranians. Iranians come on and give me thank yous whilst I get called an Iranian agent by Arabs and their supporters. I even got a message from somebozo he said he wanted to burn all Iranians.

I have said many times that I do not approve of a theocratic or a monarchy. But the Arabs on the forum take it personally and make personal attacks

Dunno yaar because I've seen them go loco on each other more times then I can count !

You are right but if you look at the posts carefully in my case it is because I have been provoked by Arabs by personal attacks on me.

Somebozo's position has always been inconsistent I do not know what to say about him.

mate let me tell you I am a Sunni I have been brought up to consider Arabs Turks and Iranians as our brothers.

I am acutely aware that the identity of Pakistan is not only linked to these three great people but we have extensively married into these countries. BB was daughter of an Iranian woman. Nawaz Shariff's daughter I think is married into Sauds so of course they are our extended family all of them.

I only have an axe to grind against what I perceive as injustice by Israelis and Americans who have and are killing innocent Muslims from Libya to Pakistani as collateral damage in their disproportionate attacks against criminals. Clearly anyone who allies with Americans and Israelis worries me
