The main types of meat imported from the U.S. were drumsticks, wings, feet and ground meat. Photo acquired by VnExpress.

The U.S. was the largest exporter of chicken to Vietnam in the first half of this year, at around 62,400 tons or over $48.6 million.

This accounted for 44 percent of Vietnam’s chicken imports.

The U.S. was followed by South Korea, the Netherlands, Poland, Brazil and Russia, Vietnam Customs data show.

The main types of meat imported from the U.S. were drumsticks, wings, feet and ground meat. Drumsticks topped in volume at 59,500 tons valued at $45.2 million.

The average import price of VND22,420 (96 cents) per kilogram was lower than domestic prices which ranged between VND35,000-70,000 ($1.5-3).

Nguyen Van Trong, deputy head of the department of livestock production under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, said that Americans prefer chicken breasts, therefore other body parts such as drumsticks and wings are exported at lower prices, while Vietnamese like these parts.

Vietnam imported almost 142,200 tons of chicken worth over $120 million in the first half of this year, up 41.6 percent in value, according to Vietnam Customs.

Cold storage is the normal process bro. Otherwise things will become ugly
There we reports which came up when US was trying to export drumsticks to India and they were reportedly stored in cold storage for months...who would even wanna eat that "next to rotten crap"

It’s frozen not refrigerated. On any given day there is about 400Million lbs of frozen chicken in the US. A little over a lb for every person.

Looks like US is dumping unsold frozen chickens previously meant for export to China. Trump's tariff war is good news for Aussie cows. Cheap chicken meat replacing beef means less live Aussie cows will be sent to Vietnam to be slaughtered.

Poor chicken. They only live 30 days before they are slaughtered.
When I was younger, chicken war often occurs over the price of chicken. Whenever the price drop too low due to dumping by other countries, local farmer would vent their anger by dumping thousands of chicks at the local politician office. :woot: There would be chicks everywhere.

Chicken McNuggets?
My kids love it.
but nothing beats chicken rice, especially from Hainan. My uncle came from there. He brought the dish to Vietnam. Interestingly, Chinatown Saigon has many from Hainan. In contrast to other regions, Hainan chicken is prepared and cooked with rice together.
