US to raise tariffs on $200 billion of Chinese goods up to 25%
In announcing the tariff hike, US President Donald Trump complained that trade talks with China were moving "too slowly." The tariff increases on $200 billion of Chinese goods are set to start by the end of the week.

US President Donald Trump increased pressure on China on Sunday when he announced that US tariffs on certain Chinese products would rise from 10% to 25% on Friday.

More Chinese goods are to face additional tariffs, he said.

"For 10 months, China has been paying Tariffs to the USA of 25% on 50 Billion Dollars of High Tech, and 10% on 200 Billion Dollars of other goods," Trump wrote on Twitter on Sunday.

"The 10% will go up to 25% on Friday, he added.

For 10 months, China has been paying Tariffs to the USA of 25% on 50 Billion Dollars of High Tech, and 10% on 200 Billion Dollars of other goods. These payments are partially responsible for our great economic results. The 10% will go up to 25% on Friday. 325 Billions Dollars....

....of additional goods sent to us by China remain untaxed, but will be shortly, at a rate of 25%. The Tariffs paid to the USA have had little impact on product cost, mostly borne by China. The Trade Deal with China continues, but too slowly, as they attempt to renegotiate. No!

In the announcement on Twitter, Trump said that talks to secure a trade deal with China are continuing, but are moving "too slowly."

Tariff truce ends

The tariff hike would be the first to occur since Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping agreed to a tariff truce in December to avoid further escalation in the trade war between Washington and Beijing.

Trump delayed a planned tariff increase earlier this year, citing progress in trade talks with China.

The announcement on Sunday came as a surprise, as Trump had said that the negotiations with China were going well as recently as Friday.

Chinese officials are also expected to arrive in Washington for trade talks on Wednesday.

The United States imposed a 10% tariff on more than $200 billion (€178 billion) in Chinese goods last September. China retaliated by levying tariffs amounting to some $110 billion on US goods.

Washington has accused Beijing of harming US companies by stealing US technology and intellectual property, manipulating its currency and subsidizing domestic producers.

The trade dispute between the world's two largest economies has sparked fears on financial markets.

Why wait until Friday.
I guess there will be a deal by Friday or some other excuse and Trump will tweet tariffs canceled.
Let the tariff hike take place, and lets see how it impacts both the protagonists and the global economy.
Bring it on.

Hi,

Most people do not know that it is the american consumer who is paying more---. The chinese have not reduced their price---.

. .
lol so much for all the fanboy talk about China caving in and rushing for a deal.

This is going to be a very profitable week.

Not satisfied with any of the gifts purchased for you?
Sudan was not cheap for USA.

.
According President Dotard's own tweeter and yahoo's updated report, the reason he want to raise tariff is because China want to throw some of the early agreements away and re-talk.

So basically China think the US is a lot of weaker than they initially thought, so they don't want the agreements they earlier agrees, and decide to make adjustment according to reality of the power balance.

I am not sure why the American fanboys be so-happy about Dotard's tariff threat, it is like a desperate resort, and I am sure with much much higher-IQ than Dotard, China has plans for Dotard's very predictable reaction as well, that's the benefits when you put a low-IQ dotard as your president.

The moral of the story is, don't underestimate China, Mr President.

China's counter-reaction could be already on the way:

Wall Stree Journal report that China may cancel the trade talk with the US, due to President Dotard's tariff threat:

http://www.zaobao.com/realtime/world/story20190506-954215

I suspect it is all part of the grand plan: China had never have real intention to sign any trade deal with Dotard, they just use trade talk to buy time to adjust our great economy that could de-coupling with the US, once the job is done (like now), China just call the US to go **** themselves, leave the US fully unprepared and a world of hurt...

So that's why you see Dotard's angry tweeter, and that's why Wall St Journal report that China may use Dotard's angry tweeter as an excuse to quit this "trade talk".

That's how a highly intelligent people play with a dotard:rofl:

ditch the dollar ?

That cannot be done single-handedly by China.

It should be a joint and incremental process. Because reserve currency has disadvantages as well as advantages.

No other sane country would like to build an insane military complex to justify the reserve currency and send their young people to far away lands to die and become fertilizer, or come back home crippled on a wheelchair with saliva dripping from the corner of mouth.

So I believe China would tariff American products equally.
