The United States Institute of Peace on Friday wanted to know from the ruling Awami League about the government’s position over the conflict between India and China.

AL international affairs secretary Shammi Ahmed shared this with reporters after a meeting between the AL and the USIP, an independent nonpartisan national institution established and funded by Congress, at AL president and prime minister’s political office at Dhanmondi in the Dhaka city.

‘They wanted to know about the Awami League’s position over the China-India conflict over the Arunachal border. We told them about our foreign policy dictum—friendship to all and malice to none. We do not want to make interference in any country’s internal matters,’ Shammi said, adding that the team also inquired about the government’s economic partnership with China, an emerging economic power.

She said that they wanted to know about the political tension in the subcontinent and the Bangladesh government and AL’s role in this regard.

According to the AL, the USIP three-member team consisting of its visiting expert for South Asia Region Geoffrey Macdonald, senior adviser on South Asia Dan Markey and South Asia Programme research analyst Isha Gupta were present at the meeting.

Speaking about India, Shami said that India was a tested friend and Bangladesh was sharing a large portion of its border with India and that India also helped the country’s people during the War of Liberation in 1971.

She said that they also wanted to know about the AL’s position over the rise of Hinduism in India.

‘We do not want to say anything about their internal matter. We give respect to theories of other countries. Things that are happening in China and India are the matters of those countries,’ she claimed to have told the USIP team.

She said that AL wanted to resolve everything through discussion not through war following the foreign policy of the country’s founding president Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

AL presidium member Muhammad Faruk Khan and advisory council member Enam Ahmed Chowdhury, among others, were present at the meeting.

The USIP was established by Congress in 1984 as an independent institution devoted to the nonviolent prevention and mitigation of deadly conflict abroad.

As far as I understand, America does not want a BD that is pure neutral in times of wars between India and China.

Chinese military captures Indian NE unless BD allows its land, water and sky for uses by Indian military.

Nope. We must be neutral and close our border even for indian civilian movements. They can use their Siliguri corridor.
.
I will love to watch indians getting slaughtered by China. indian hindus are threat to us and every Muslims.

In a war, officially BD would take a neutral position.

But Bangladeshi civilians will be facilitating Chinese military movements.

Bangladesh must have a border with China - it would open up huge trade opportunities.

Seven sisters are destined to be part of China.

Matter of when, not if.

I have a feeling that USA wants an India friendly govt. in Bangladesh and this is precisely why they have asked Bangladesh's position on China-India rivalry in the region. May be I am wrong but the way things are unfolding one might ask if there is a compromise made on the US side to let Awami League in power provided they follow Indian toe as far as China is concerned. It can be mentioned here that India is a member of quad---a forum established to contain China.

Institute of peace —- hahaha

What Chinese military movement? We don't have border with China. And we must be purely neutral.
Bangladesh must have a border with China - it would open up huge trade opportunities.
Nope. I dont want to live with northeastern loonies. Neither I have any territorial ambition. Bangladesh is a pure Bengali state. It should remain that way.

We can use other routes to trade with china.

USA’s condition for allowing a rigged election is a defence treaty between India and Bangladesh.

Hasina knows that.

But she also knows USA doesn’t want BNP as they will take a hawkish line against India.

She knows USA has no choice.

USA in between a rock and hard place.

The people of Bangladesh won't allow the govt. to sign a defense treaty with India. Awami league will invite its demise if it makes a move to sign any anti national treaty with a foreign power.

Hasina knows that. Officially BD is neutral but unofficially it is pro China.

Hasina is pro-India not pro-China.

Hmm, that’s why she gave all those contracts to China 🤣🤣🤣

Maybe you should tell US she is pro India - then they would not pretend they care about election!

You are talking what BD should do, but I talked what America and and India think.

But, why do you have to slaughter Hindus. Is it because Hindus have successfully sent Chandrayan Mission to the Moon and Muslims cannot do the same with their pea-brain?

Are not the idiot Muslims being slaughtered in Gaza and all other places already?

In a war, officially BD would take a neutral position. Yes

But Bangladeshi civilians will be facilitating Chinese military movements. - No and BD civilians can't facilitate Chinese movement even if they want to. Look at a map, There will be no Chinese movement in BD.

Bangladesh must have a border with China - it would open up huge trade opportunities. - No possible. Look at a map.

Seven sisters are destined to be part of China. - No. Maybe parts of Arunachal but that is also uncertain.

What do you mean 'feeling', it is certain.

We have some amoeba brained members here think because Hasina is India friendly, US will help remove her and there will be an election and we will be happy ever after. Whichever govt will come to power after Hasina will likely be India friendly ensured by the Americans. The Americans have an immediate priority of looking after Indian interest because they are betting on India for their China containment strategy.

Exactly, some Indians think that BD has a territorial ambition in their seven sisters. They have no clue how strong the Bengali culture and nationalism is, we don't want to live with Assamese or Manipuri. BD is a pure Bengali culture and we want to keep it that way.

As if those contracts could have been given to India or India had the ability to provide those loans.

Hasina is pro-India but also pragmatic. She keeps a good relationship with China to help develop infrastructure and help the economy. If she fails to provide decent living standards and a gdp growth, she won't be able to illegally cling to power for so long. So, that's where it might look like to the unscrupulous that she is pro-China.
