What are they gonna do, launch the same short ranged Harpoons with a slower platform? Even LRASM only has 300 nm range and is solely integrated with the B-1. Easily intercepted by PL-15 armed planes.

Subs are gonna wait in the shallow East China Sea where corvettes with VDS and quieter electric subs have the advantage? They're gonna wait inside MPA and helicopter patrol range?

LRASMs have an 800 km range and have been integrated with Super Hornets as well. B-1s can launch well outside the range of Chinese air defenses. And F-22s/F-35s will screen far out in front of strike packages.

US bombers will also integrate the 1,000+mile hypersonic AGM-183 ARRW in the next couple years. It only gets harder for China.

while China already has air launched DF-21 hypersonic missiles, and can use the already deployed stealthy recon drone WZ-8 as well as geostationary optical satellite Gaofen-13 to guide them, preventing carrier based F-35 from being able to deploy near China, and PL-15 250+ km range AA missiles with independent AESA seeker head to take on the low numbers that can be sustained with refueling.

Soon VLS compatible ballistic missiles will make it so that any Chinese surface ship can launch 100+ long range anti-ship ballistic missiles up to 1000+ km away with DF-11 already being the correct size required for VLS launch. it only gets harder for any aggressors.

The obsession with maximum advertised range of any missile is misplaced TBH. It is important to understand that a major part of modern conventional warfare fall in the EW spectrum and one should expect these measures to complicate target engagement options across the board in substantial ways (assuming belligerents to be technologically advanced). Expect numerous misses in real-time engagement situations accordingly; expect jamming/spoofing/intercepts in the mix. My suggestion is to not jump to conclusions in these talks over baseline/rudimentary set-of-assumptions; study some more instead.

USN is by far the most capable force in the seas in view of all considerations - no shame in admitting this.

Harpoons have been upgraded over time and they also have sufficient range to defend against amphib invasion. Are they the most potent missiles in the US arsenal? No, but the US is selling 400 to Taiwan. Taiwan will simply mass fires against Chinese warships. Many will get through. 400 is a lot of missiles.

You can launch 400 missiles or 4,000 missiles. It may not matter if the missiles are flying blind, deaf, and mute. 400 missiles plopping into the ocean won't get anything done.

Don't be surprised if all radar, data-links, SATCOM, and GPS are "blanked out" for several hundred miles around the Taiwan Strait during the war by Chinese theater suppression aircraft.
