US signs nuclear technology deal with Vietnam

The only thing vietnam can gain is cheap electricity, Vietnam does not have enough money for enrichment, for that you need at least an extra trillion of dollars, that is if some one is willing to sell. Then you also need to develops miniturization and missile technology. Those 2 ain't cheap

Unless if your goal is to turn Vietnam into North Korea, then Vietnam should go all in with the enrichment. Otherwise, that is a rich man game

And again, judging from the news, US is selling PRE-enriched uranium cake to Vietnam, not the tech how to get to 20% itself

Relax, Viet Nam is not North Korea. Viet Nam has TRILLIONS dollars worth of natural resources and the land can do triple yield a year. Unlike North Korea, Viet Nam is not a rogue state. All Viet Nam wants is the ability to supply nuclear fuel by itself ie self reliance instead of having to BUY from industrialized nations.

Self-sufficient is a must toward the path of industrializing a nation that's why South Korea/China/Taiwan all want to develope their domestic industries instead of having to BUY forever from industrialized countries. Enrichment is not cheap so is developing your own automobile brand but countries are still doing it because even if the process is expensive, the money pays back into your economy/country instead of flowing into the hands of foreigners. People who advocate developing countries like Viet Nam to BUY (because it's cheaper to buy than produce) all have interests in keeping themselves rich while keeping Viet Nam poor forever ie neo colonialism.

Whether Viet Nam will be able to acquire the enrichment techs is a ? but being able to enrich the uranium is enshrined in Viet Nam's nuclear protocol. I doubt Viet Nam is thinking about nuke weapon but if Viet Nam does, it would not be anything like a missile. More likely something small/light that can be delivered across the border via truck, ship, boat, hand .

If this deal with the U.S does not involve transfering of enrichment tech, then this deal is nothiing special. Russian and Japan both build nuke plant for Viet Nam but we receive no tech transfer either.

HAHA... the biggest difference is China had built our nuclear industry since 1960s, and
1) Top secret is confidential, we won't leak anything on the internet.
2) China opened uranium enrichment plants on CCTV news, and no country including U.N can threat us or embargo punishment.
3) China won't allow Vietnam developing nuke technology, i think America also has the same idea.

The amount of Uranium reserve in Viet Nam is a highly classified data. Not until now we get a glimpse of its reserve amount.

Another ingredient for the nuclear industry is aluminum (See Iraqi aluminum tube). Viet Nam's bauxite reserve is abundant. Despite all the protest from Alcoa and the industrialized nations/interest groups, Viet Nam pushes ahead with mining the bauxite. All the industrialized nations don't like this because Viet Nam is going to make the price of aluminum drop further than it is now.

NK is not allowed to enrich uranium like VN.

Nuclear N.K is bad for China and US. But Nuclear is only bad for China not bad for US, so US allow VN to enrich uranium on our own soil and make Nuke bomb in secret to pose a serious threat to China

the US deal is clear:
- VN can purchase nuclear fuel and technology from America
- VN has the right to acquire machines and technology to enrich uranium to LEU (low enriched uranium) for power plants and other civil purposes
- VN is committed not to enrich uranium to HEU (high enriched uranium) and develop nuclear weapons.
- VN is supervised by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

So all can relax. Same deals have been signed with Russia and Japan. Plus we have chosen South Korea as preferred bidder to the next two nuclear power plants. All in all 10 plants will be built.
