US report lauds Bangladesh's religious freedom

US State Department in its report on International Religious Freedom lauded Bangladesh for upholding constitutional right to profess and practice all religions and appointment of a significant number of members of minority communities in important political and administrative positions, reports UNB.

The report released in Washington on November 17 also praised the establishment of training academies for Imams, modernising and mainstreaming the curriculum of religious education, promoting interfaith understanding and ensuring peaceful celebration of religious and secular Bangali festivals.

It said absence of any report of religious prisoners and diminishing trend of violence against religious minorities are some of the hallmarks of the present democratic government in Bangladesh.

The report, which is largely positive about the status of religious freedom in the coutry further acknowledges that during the year under review, several Supreme Court decisions such as 'ruling the elements of the Fifth Amendment to the constitution unconstitutional' bolstered the country's status as a secular state.

US Secretary of State Hilary Clinton released the report that contains performance of 198 countries during the period under review (July 1, 2009 to June 30, 2010).

Good news! But this is what a large number of BD posters hate about the 'Indian Stooge' AL, they want an Islamization of BD. They are not going to like this.

Mind your language before posting crap over here... Bangladesh is always tolerant towards people of other religion... Here in bd people of all religion live peacefully side by side .... This is only the bharti malaun groups of India that tried to create the fuss minorities are oppressed in Bangladesh.

Are you out of your mind? We are against fascism aka Indian Stooge AL. And Bangladesh is one of the countries with the highest number of muslims. and please don't be such a hypocrit by calling youself secularism, when you have slaugthered thousands of muslims in your so called "secular" country.
The main opposition does not promote radical islam rather a moderate approach where all religions are also respected. Personally, I maybe wrong, but I don't believe in the last decade the minorities suffered as much as back in the dates. Lets not given AL all the credit.

This is what Nazrul said..

‘’I can tolerate Hinduism and Muslims but I cannot tolerate the Tikism (Tiki is a tuft of never cut hair kept on the head by certain Hindus to maintain personal Holiness) and beardism. Tiki is not Hinduism. It may be the sign of the pundit. Similarly beard is not Islam, it may be the sign of the mollah. All the hair-pulling have originated from those two tufts of hair. Todays fighting is also between the Pundit and the Mollah: It is not between the Hindus and the Muslims. No prophet has said, ‘’I have come for Hindus I have come for Muslims I have come for Christians.” They have said, “I have come for the humanity for everyone, like light’’. But the devotees of Krishna says, “Krishna is for Hindus”. The followers of Muhammad (Sm) says, “Muhammad (Sm) is for the Muslims”. The Disciple of Christ is for Christian”. Krishna-Muhammad-Christ have become national property. This property is the root of all trouble. Men do not quarrel for light but they quarrel over cattle.”

Another One
“Come brother Hindu! Come Musalman! Come Buddhist! Come Christian! Let us transcend all barriers, let us foresake forever all smallness, all lies, all selfishness and let us call brothers as brothers. We shall quarrel no more”.
