PLAAF should have shot it down. Taiwan is missing good spanking.

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A U.S. Navy transport jet was sighted flying directly over Taiwan on Tuesday morning (June 9) and was last spotted flying towards Taiwan's Dongsha Islands (Pratas Islands) in the South China Sea.

Aircraft spotting sites AirNav RadarBox and planefinder, in addition to Twitter user Golf9, spotted a U.S. Navy Boeing C-40a Clipper taking off from Okinawa, likely Kadena Air Base, at 8:53 a.m. Tuesday morning. The plane, which has the call number CNV7642, appeared to fly directly over northern Taiwan, turning south to flying along the island's west coast.

The plane's flight path took it over Keelung, New Taipei, Taipei, Taoyuan, Hsinchu, Miaoli, Taichung, Changhua, and Chiayi before exiting over Tainan and heading toward the open sea, according to AirNav RadarBox.

The jet was last spotted flying toward Taiwan's Dongsha Islands (Pratas Islands) in the northern part of the South China Sea. When Golf9 spotted the jet, he wrote that its route directly over Taiwan's west coast was a "rare flight course."

U.S. military jets very rarely fly over Taiwan's airspace, preferring instead to fly in international waters around the island. The C-40a is the Navy version of the Boeing 737-700 and is designed to carry high-priority passengers or cargo, according to the manufacturer's website.

The flight occurs at a time of rising tensions between China and the U.S. over sanctions imposed in retaliation for a draconian security law passed in Hong Kong. The escalating confrontation is also occurring on a number of other fronts such as the trade war, China's poor handling of the Wuhan coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, the South China Sea, and new restrictions on Chinese journalists and graduate students in the U.S.

Ministry of National Defense (MND) spokesman Shih Shun-wen (史順文) released a statement in which he said that the nation's military has full control over the airspace over Taiwan and that the current situation is normal. However, Shih did not confirm or deny the flight by the Navy jet.

Update: 06/09 11:42 a.m.

China Times cited a source familiar with the matter as saying that the plane had requested an emergency landing due to problems with "malfunctioning landing gear." The person claimed that the jet was carrying "high-ranking U.S. officials" and landed at the Ching Chuan Kang Air Base in Taichung before taking off again a mere five minutes later.

However, other local Taiwanese media outlets described the landing as an unverified rumor. The MND has not confirmed such a landing took place and the Liberty Times cited Taichung Airport officials as saying that they had not received a distress call.

The small island "Naha" where this jet took off, is that in US control?

The US C-40's flight was approved by Taiwan's defense authority, and this was a straight-up provocation hatched by the Taiwan and US militaries, signifying the increasing military cooperation between them, Song said, noting that this can also be seen as a de facto joint military drill, indicating the US could lend Taiwan support in a war and give Taiwan secessionists courage to fight the mainland.

Beijing-based military expert Wei Dongxu told the Global Times on Tuesday that the deployment of the Su-30 fighter jets amid the US operation showed the PLA is always on high combat alert, and it can react very fast when intruders approach Taiwan.

The PLA is capable of covering the entire Taiwan and nearby airspace, and weave dense defense positions, and US aircraft could be identified and locked on by PLA fighter jets, Wei said.

Wei noted that the Su-30 is fighter jet with long endurance, advanced radar systems and can carry medium-range air-to-air missile that can shoot down targets from afar. Sending the Su-30s also showed the PLA's capability to seize air superiority.

It appears that PLAAF locked on to the C-40 with fire control radar.

At this rate China should offer Taiwan independence and full recognition as the State of Taiwan. In exchange for 4nm chip technology.

Taiwan would be stupid enough to host US military in a war, so when US and China have a war in 40 years, China can take over Taiwan then as punishment for siding with the US. :enjoy:

We are ready for a war right now. In fact, there is no better timing than now.

50+ fifth gen Chinese fighters vs hundreds of 5th gen American fighters
Chinese need many J-16D electronic warfare planes vs uncounted number of EW planes of Americans
American ships have sm-3, China has no HQ-26 on their ships.

True that things are going to get worse for China when hypersonic missiles, drones and gliders are acquired by the Americans.

Same thing happens for Iran. Now is a window for war for both nations - China & Iran. Iran simply can't attack Isreal or they get nuked.

Protest in the creation of 25 new Dalian-like shipyards making mostly subs.

There is absolutely nothing the Americans can do if China decided to turn all military installations in Taiwan into rubble.

China won't do that without first decoupling from the West, they would lose hundreds of billions in investments, as sanctions are put on China. 1T in T-bills lost. Taiwan is not worth it.

Play the strategy of make your enemy do something stupid, don't play their games of provocation.

China did this, and the US released a bioweapon to blame China, and now China is now top. US is pissed and trying to get China in a war with neighbors.

A military defeat for the US in Taiwan means a Soviet style implosion of the US and a huge power vacuum in East Asia not seen since the Opium War. China will literally rule from Hawaii all the way to the silk road and BRI.

That is if the Americans get involved and China wins.
