The good news is that most USA states do have hate crime laws. If hate crime victims are willing to go through the trouble of filing a report of the crime, most are investigated by the police. At the very least, the perpetrator is publicly shamed, even if the offense itself is deemed too minor, or treated with leniency as a first offense, for jail time or a fine. Many hate crime perpetrators lose their jobs because of the negative publicity. Ask yourself if the crime described in this posting would be investigated and the perpetrator punished in the country where you live, or where you were raised.
