An armed U.S. helicopter appears to have been shot down over Afghanistan Wednesday, killing both crew members, a U.S. military official said.

CNN reported the Taliban claimed responsibility for the downing over Ghazni province.

"It is likely that the helo today was brought down due to enemy small arms and RPG fire," the official said, CNN reported. The aircraft was a U.S. Army OH-58 Kiowa Warrior reconnaissance helicopter.

An e-mail sent by Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahi said, "After the rocket hit it, the helicopter came down and took fire."

Unfortunate event. But then we only know that it happened. We do not know that why it happened.

Internal rivalries within Afghanistan is not a new thing.

afghanistan was better stable before NATO!!! the afghan talibans were not killing to civilians...

Afghanistan was in a state of civil war even during Taliban rule. But since Taliban had firm control over major portion of the country; Taliban dominated regions were stable. Surprisingly, Northern Alliance controlled regions were also stable. Taliban did some good things and some bad things.

Good things;

- Stability in controlled regions
- Effective implementation of Shariah Law (crimes and growth of poppy crops minimized)

Bad things;

- Lack of respect of religious sentiments of non-muslims (destruction of statues that brought international condemnation).
- Giving shelter to Arab militants who formed al-Qaeda group
- Not giving rights to women

Yes, after 9/11 event, Bush should not have acted in haste. He should have given Taliban more time to surrender OBL to US.

Your anger is understandable. But US troops are not in Afghanistan by choice but by orders.

in my opinion the opportunity was lost when Obama didnt announce the end of WoT in Afghanistan after the assassination of Osama.

the Afghans have no where else to go, its their homeland and they dont like invaders they will keep fighting back no matter how many of them you kill. get the message and leave this god forsaken place be.
