Padma Vibushan awardee Ilaiyaraaja, who is currently on a musical concert tour of the US, has fans across the world – so much so that a restaurant at the Google headquarters in Mountain View, California, customised its menu to welcome the Maestro to dine at their premises.

The Raaja themed menu
Chennai:
Baadal, an Indian restaurant is one of Silicon Valley’s most popular restaurants that caters to Google employees. It was opened after feedback from Indian employees of the company wanting ‘desi’ food that reminded them of the delicious fare back home in India.
During his tour, Ilaiyaraaja also visited the Google campus for a talk on the power of music in life’s journey earlier this week – and the restaurant pulled out all the stops to ensure that the legendary composer felt at home. Chef Mahesh Kumar created a ‘Raja-specific’ menu for the occasion with dishes named after several of his iconic films and songs.
‘Annakili’ poondu rasam, ‘Thalapathy’ pumpkin erissery, ‘Naachiyar’ paneer milagu masala, and ‘Thaara Thappattai’ puli sadam were some of the specialities on offer for the occasion. A picture of the menu shared by one of the diners has gone viral on social media, with several of Ilaiyaraaja’s fans overjoyed at the fandom the composer enjoys outside India.
Since the inception of the special menu, it seems like Baadal has become even more famous in California with several Tamilians settled in the US spreading the word about its admiration to Ilaiyaraaja. The manager of the restaurant has stated that many people have been calling to visit the eatery, requesting to order from the Raja-themed menu, and Google employees being inundated with friends and family members asking them to call in a favour.
