US gave Iraq $1.5b for biological agents, says Saddam lawyer

AMMAN: Saddam Hussein’s lawyer Giovanni Di Stefano has revealed details of payments made by the United States to Iraq for the use of chemical and biological agents.

One such payment in the form of a bank guarantee was taken to Saddam Hussein by Donald Rumsfeld on December 20, 1983. “It was for these reasons that the US and the UK were absolutely certain that Saddam did have chemical weapons because they had financed such,” stated Di Stefano.

“What is certain however, is that no such chemical weapons were found and that if Saddam Hussein faced a trial for ‘wrongful conversion of loans granted for use other than that specified’, I would perhaps consider a plea bargain for him. As it was the reason that no chemical weapons were found was that contrary to the purpose of the $1.5 billion loan guarantee granted by the US to Iraq for the use of biological agents, Saddam did not acquire biological agents,” stated Di Stefano. Di Stefano said that the ‘Anfal’ trial was at risk because of the revelations.

So that's what was happening in that pic where Rumsfeld is seen shaking hands with Saddam.

How about putting Rumsfeld on the same trial and part of the accused?
