US F35 & F15 and Greek F16 in joint training exercises.

10 F-35 and 14 F-15 aircraft are expected, which in the coming days will carry out joint training with F-16 of Greek Air Force. The joint training exercises will take place from July 11 to 21 in the Aegean and Mediterranean regions.

This is the first substantial air four of the Greeks flown opposite and next to the 5th generation aircraft. Both the Air Force and the airmen themselves want to "dust off" the F-35. To learn as much as they can about the acquisition of the Air Force, which will certainly arrive at a Greek airport several years later.

Already on Friday morning, F-35 and F-15 aircraft of the American air forces operating from Europe and based in Lakenheath, Great Britain, have begun to reposition in Souda. Yesterday the re-parking of the 24 aircraft completed and after the rest on Sunday, on Monday morning the take-offs and the aerial rendezvous with the "blue wings" will begin. And then the so-called "fam flight" begins, so that the pilots of the F-35 & F-15 Strike Eagle, familiarize themselves with the "blue falcons", before they start to "dive" at a low altitude, next to the Greek wings and attack ground troops , strategic targets, in air strike scenarios.

What really is missing on the greek side are dedicated fighter and UAV eW assets. The compass call hercs are usually at 50% availability if I recall from an old AFM article

The only greco purchase I could never understand was the T-2 buckeye.
Why the hell did HAF get a very naval focused trainer vs what were better options for a country that has no aircraft carriers?

Because your country doesn't sell everything that Greece asks for, with the excuse of of the Greek-Turkish differences. E.g. in the past, Greece wanted F-18s and F-15s, with a full electronic package. Unfortunately, the USA gave us too much of it, while releasing it to other countries, such as in Switzerland.

Greece cannot have an aircraft carrier for two reasons: it is an easy target for Turkey and it cannot afford to maintain it. The same operational work is done by the Greek islands.

Interesting! When did we ask for that? Was it in the 2000s maybe? Or back in the '90s?

F/A-18s at the mid of 80s, we bought Mirage 2000 and F-16
F-15s at the end of the 90s, we bought F-16.

Things might have been a bit different now if we had chosen F-15s instead of more F-16s.

We would have upgraded the F-15s to F-15EX and not get Rafale,probably.
