U.S. employers added 1.4 million jobs in August and the unemployment rate fell to 8.4%, the Labor Department reported Friday, as the economy continued to rebound from the coronavirus pandemic.

The jobless rate’s decline—it has dropped from near 15% in April at the beginning of the pandemic—put it below the peak of 10% during the 2007-2009 recession and is in line with unemployment seen in past major recessions.

I was pretty surprised when I saw this on the news this morning. I thought we were a failing state? Had no hope? Lost everything despite having the worst president in the history of the country with a population ravished by the coronavirus? lol. 1.4 million jobs in a month is pretty incredible considering all that is happening with the work environment etc.

But I think what this has done is forced a lot of businesses which have offices to reconsider their logistical plans for the future and even for start-ups in that maybe they don't need offices? The virus forcing those who can work from home to do so has made their company bosses realize that maybe this is the way of the future and that they don't need to lease office spaces or buildings etc. and can operate even more efficiently with their laptops at home. This seems to be the new norm and perhaps why we're also seeing this numbers in the middle of all this craziness.

In almost every dire situation, there is a silver lining. As hard as that is to believe with the path of disturbance and destruction this virus has left in its wake.

Funny cuz I'm starting to forget putting my mask on every time I get out of the truck to go into a store or into an establishment and have to remind myself to go back to the truck and put it on. Almost psychologically my brain has had enough of all this crap and body is reacting to it.

I'm also seeing a lot more complacency out there as far as masks are concerned. A lot of people really not wearing them and not working with them on etc. Gotta be careful, this thing can come around and slap everyone in the face really hard.

What's the Swede's secret?

Bullsh!t news. The U.S govt fudges the numbers to include people on zero hour contracts, part time gigs and etc. Lie all you want, the reality is that american unemployment figures are considerably higher and the american people are struggling to make ends meet.

I think Zero hour contracts is a British thing. Over here that is usually reserved for part-time work. For instance a part-time cashier in a supermarket can work 0-40 hours a week.

Massachusetts has a done good job, better than most states. I also like the government’s phased reopening.

Most of these are temp(permanently temporary) jobs as some factories slowly re-open.

To an extent you are right. Real growth and return of jobs will be very slow in some cases big business will try to see how it can replace humans with tech. A lot of brick and mortar stores will now completely switch over to e commerce.

O'boy. First you lay off people in fear of Covid-19 fall out.
When you realise that things are getting better, you re-hire the staff back.
How that is adding the jobs!! Regain, yes, added, no.
