US decides to end Pak counterinsurgency capability fund

WASHINGTON: United States has decided to carry off a key allocation under what was called Pakistan Counterinsurgency Capability fund while helping in the modernization of security forces.
According to the daily Pioneer newspaper, Pakistan had been given 800.5 million dollars by American foreign office under counterinsurgency capabilities fund in year 2013.
The aim of the fund was to enhance the capabilities of Pakistan's military in countering insurgency.
However, Obama administration has opted to retain the flow of assistance to Pakistan at $1.3 billion in the ensuring fiscal year.
The proposed assistance for Pakistan during American fiscal 2014, beginning October this year, includes about $860 million in development or non-military assistance and $300 million in military assistance under the Foreign Military Financing programme, the newspaper added. (Monitoring Desk)
