What's new

US Army's hi-tech, two-year-old sandwich served fresh.

my friend....combat training instills and imparts in you a lot of things but survival is an art. It can only teach you so much. When you have nothing else at hand, you'd be dumb not to take the sandwich. As long as it doesnt have mildew or fungus, it's fine. And it comes sealed tight so that no air could enter. It stays ''fresh''

it's not a 5-star cuisine, but at least it is sustenance

i think chocolate bar last very long, so instead of sandwich, they can use chocolate or energy bars?? or am i wrong??

So much sugars in them, which is bad Carbs. You dont want your troops getting fat and lazy.

Its a bit sad to see Indian Army M.R.E's are vegan....how unfortunate...for the soldier i mean..

They do have meat as well.
Unlike the foreign rations which are based mostly on pork, ham or beef, the Indian rations are based on mutton, chicken and a vegetarian ration for non meat eaters.

It's not just Pakistanis... my girl and her troops would go to the local market once every couple of weeks and buy a goat. They'd butcher the goat and grill it along with fresh vegetables and bread. Made a good break from the pre-packaged stuff.

And whoever mentioned fiber - it's no joke. They really should put like a packet of Metamucil (psyllium fiber) in those things. I guess the military would rather have them stopped up than "loose."

Many soldiers avoid the peanut butter like the plague because it tended to clog the pipes.

I've had U.S. MRE's many times. I know soldiers are sick of them, but IMO they are pretty darned good, and if you were really hungry, they'd be excellent.

MUCH better than the old-fashioned C and K rations. K rations especially, were nothing more than a 1960's version of a power bar. They sucked.

for you have to tasted the c and K rations you must be pretty old mate.

a lot of people are ignorant of the fact that a lot of Hindus eat at least chicken . the younger generation do not care . one of my closest friend is a UP Brahmin and he eats everything from P0rk to beef.

I'm thinking about purchasing a box of MRE so I can taste and experience this. I don't mind single serving stuff. In fact I like single serving creamers, butter, jam, etc. I know this is slightly different.

Also how do they heat the food up? Heater with a match?

I remember watching video of German soldiers, the Africa Korps (WWII) in N.Africa, it was so hot they would fry eggs on the surface of the tank, the eggs would sizzle and fry.
