5 companies: Anadolu Group, BMC, Kok Group, Turkcell and Zorlu Holding have established a company equal shares to manufacture the national automobile.

The prototypes developed in Turkey will be manufactured with different body types and engines. The prototypes of the cars will be presented at the Geneva motor show in 2019.

https://en.trend.az/world/turkey/2870338.html

This is just one source but multiple Turkish sources quoted Turkish officials back in 2017-18 stating that Turkey will present the prototype of its indigenously designed car at Geneva Motor Show in 2019.

Geneva Motorshow starts in three days.

So any update? What happened to the Turkish indigenous car project??

I'll tell you what will happen. Either the project will be called off or corrupt AKP members will seek out tech transfer from foreign companies (AKA complete copy of original design with slight cosmetic changes). They will then give the contract to BMC because it's owned by Erdogan's friend who hates Turks. Believe it or not I actually genuinely believe this is how it will play out.

Edit: I believe the tech transfer was already done

If this is the case with a rather simple project, how can Turkey be expected to complete its critical defense projects relating to high-tech jets, ships, submarines, missiles, engines etc?

Years of research, education and experience from examining and fixing advanced weapon systems. Turkey has showed that it is fully capable of producing advanced weapons. However there are two obstacles that we must fix in order to not jeopardize future projects:

  1. Relying on foreign engines/transmissions.
  2. Letting politicians pick and choose their company of choice. They will usually choose a company with close ties to themselves instead of the company with the most experience and capabilities.

We will update about this project, when some solid developments are revealed. Although Turkish known car makers are invited to design a national car under the name of a domestic brand name, Noone approached to take this risk excluding 3-4 manufacturer and design office because Most of Turkish car makers rely on licence production incomes of known brands. At present, A strong consortium has been established and We will wait and see what they will reveal.

Instead of government, private companies should take the lead.

Usually, under the AKP, even such projects as building a ,domestic car becomes politicized. In this case, instead of viability, feasibility, capability, factors such as pleasing the president, helping him with election campaigns becomes paramount.

Instead, the natural course of investment, testing, innovation and production should take place.

In China, recently, private domestic brands took the initiative to innovate and introduce new models.

They even test futuristic designs -- although I am more of a traditional-design person.

I think generation Z (opened their eyes to smart-phones and now is growing up with their eyes stick to the screen)

The M-Byte concept was first shown at the CES 2018. With shorter front and rear overhangs, the BEV model gets more room for passengers. Boasting a futuristic gene, it is outfitted with such configurators as LED headlights, luminous marks, two-tone vehicle body as well as the trendy taillight cluster that stretches across the rear end.

Inside, a massive liquid crystal display measuring 125cm long and 25cm wide at the symmetrical center console supports gesture recognition application. In addition, there is a 9-inch touch screen located in the middle of the dual-spoke steering wheel, integrating a number of functions for driver's operation like the seat adjustment.

The M-Byte mass-produced model is going to offer two power variants. The rear-wheel-drive version carries an electric motor at the rear axle, producing 272hp and 400N·m torque peak, while the all-wheel-drive version is powered by two electric motors at the front and rear axles with a combined output of 476hp and torque peak of 710 N·m.

Lies.
There are no private companies in China. Even those you will present us as private are on the leash of the Communist party. Chinese companies are either directly under the control of ChCP or they are forced to cooperate by restrictives laws with the government.

@AUz

Don't believe this BS. The project is ongoing and it is considered top priority. That's why it takes more time. In fact, they are searching for the right place to establish the factory right now. The consortium (TOGG) is also negotiating with TAYSAD.

It takes longer because the consortium consists of private companies which are not willing to waste precious resources. The CEO of TOGG is Gürcan Karakaş, a former General Manager of Bosch. A very competent person. He also pointed out that Turkey is not just building a car. We're also developing a new eco-system from scratch for our automobile industry.

It will take longer but believe me, this is a good sign.

Some companies are partly-state owned, such as FAW or SAIC, and others are private, such as GEELY.

Especially post 2000 companies (start-ups) specializing on hybrid and/or electric vehicles are privately hold.

For example, GEELY has made significant progress in design quality and alternative fuel engines.

Geely unveils GE11 compact BEV on February 26

Molly From Gasgoo| February 26 , 2019

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- Geely unveiled the all-new GE11 compact all-electric sedan on February 26. The new model is a “globally developed product” and will spearhead Geely's foray into overseas markets, the automaker said.

From the official photos, we can see that the GE11 adopts a “closed-off” front face, which features a new logo officially named “quantum silver shield”. The lack of a grille suggests that the GE11 is a pure electric vehicle that has no internal combustion engine under the hood.

As to the side profile, smarter aerodynamics is characterized by sharp body lines and “hidden” door handles that helps reduce the air resistance—drag coefficient for the car is 0.2375Cd.

The new vehicle measures 4,736mm long, 1,804mm wide and 1,503mm tall with a wheelbase that spans 2,700mm.

Featuring a fastback design, the rear end adopts flat taillights that are connected by a chrome trim. Besides, there are two charging ports at the right-front wheel eyebrow and the left-rear wheel eyebrow respectively.

With a minimalism design, the interior largely covered by gray materials. The dual-spoke flat bottom accentuates a sense of sports. In addition, many key presses are integrated in the auxiliary instrument panel and the center console that carries a large-sized touch screen.

The GE11 is able to run at a top speed of 150km/h powered by a 177hp (130kW) electric motor and a lithium-ion power battery pack.

IMO, if they can't produce a standard gasoline/fossil fuel consuming vehicle that lives up to current day standards for such vehicles, then it's a project that's going to fail.

I wonder how the Turkish public is going to be swayed to buy a national product when you have brands like Ford, Fiat, Mercedes, BMW, Honda, Toyota and many more established car brands who have made their name for 100 years or so.

Why should they? It's not the purpose of this project to develop a fuel consuming car.

Is it me, or you are advertising Chinese products?

One word. TESLA.
