The Financial Action Task Force (FATF) on Friday decided to put Pakistan on the greylist, submitting it to intense scrutiny on terror financing.

China withdrew its objection to the nomination, allowing consensus to go through, sources said.

Earlier this week, Pakistan had claimed victory in the ongoing FATF meeting as a preliminary discussion in the International Co-operation Review Group (ICRG) failed to build a consensus on putting it again on the watch list.

However, U.S. and Indian officials had called the claim “premature” and said a final decision was still to come.

On Wednesday morning, Pakistan Foreign Minister Khawaja M. Asif, who was in Moscow at the time, tweeted that Pakistan had won a reprieve of three months in which to convince the international body not to put it on a “greylist” of countries where terror financing and black money laundering needed scrutiny.

Pakistan was on the FATF watch list from 2012 to 2015, then only on issues of money laundering.

“Our efforts paid[off],” Mr. Asif wrote, adding that the committee had proposed a three-month pause with another report to be considered in June.

According to reports in Pakistani newspapers, countries including China, Turkey and Saudi Arabia had not backed the resolution in ICRG, which was originally supported by the US, Germany, UK and France.

The case against Pakistan outlined the government’s inaction against outfits like U.N.-banned terror groups Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jamaat-ud-Dawa and its affiliate Falah-i-Insaaniyat Foundation.

As I said earlier, only Indian media is reporting this and I believe the credibility of Indian Media is even less than remote congo state! Just give it a few hours and you'll either celebrate or castigate the decision!

Congratulations -
For a change - both Indians and Pakistanis are right

1. It will be put on the watchlist

2. The effects will not kick-in till June - which means in the June meeting Pakistan can appeal and show that it has taken more steps to cut financing links.

New Delhi: The Financial Action Task Force (FATF) in its latest meeting in Paris has decided to put Pakistan on a “grey list” for not taking adequate action against proscribed terrorist entities and individuals.

The motion, brought forth by the United States, was supported by countries like UK, France, and India. The FATF voted 36 to 1 to grey list Pakistan.

The only country that voted in favour of Pakistan was Turkey. Not even traditional friends and allies like China and Turkey voted in favour of Pakistan.

This will make it difficult for international financial institutions and banks to do business in Pakistan. Conversely, it will also make it difficult for Pakistani businesses to raise money overseas.

Pakistan will also find it hard to service its debt obligations. Pakistan has about 300 billion dollars of sovereign debt which it needs to service by the end of June, failing which it could be in for a sovereign ratings downgrade by international rating agencies like S& P Moody’s and Fitch.

Domestically, opposition parties the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) are expected to use this development to attack the ruling PML(N)and its failure to convince the international body. It could also have a negative effect on the PML (N) in the upcoming general elections.

There was a report on Friday that China, Saudi Arabia and Turkey, three close allies of Pakistan, have joined hands to block a move by the Trump administration to place Islamabad on an international terror-financing watch list.

While Pakistan has claimed a victory of sorts, the US was working behind the scenes during the ongoing Paris meeting of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) to take action against the country which it believes has not acted against terrorist financing and the implementation of the UN Security Council resolutions.

Even if you go with Dunya news twitter account it is clearly saying that Pakistan to be put on the list by June NOT now which is aligned with Pakistan FM claim of 3 months reprieve and by that time Pakistan may get clearance completely.

Indian source and that too non diplomatic. They are spreading misinformation all over the place.

Congratulations -

No. You are wrong. NO decision has been made. What actually has happened so far is what Pakistan FM has claimed earlier that is 3 month reprieved and surely we will make every effort to get full clearance. Anyways things will be fully cleared in few hours time.

@Oscar @WebMaster, delete the thread as these retarded Gangadeshis are suffering fits and diarrhoea over being smacked by the world on FATF...it is like nth thread on the same false propaganda.

If true why was Asif blowing hot air out of his arse?
It is not true...slum dogs are trying to drown their sorrow... you know these sad Gangadeshis have nothing to be happy in their low and miserable lives..so they create such farts from their rears.
