According to this report's first line, it says Catherine FCS has been integrated into AK n T80s.

On 9th June 2015, THALES OPTRONCIS & SHIBLI ELECTRONICS were awarded another major successive Contract for the Up gradation of 125mm Tanks i.e T 80 UD ,AL Khalid with Catherine Fire Control System.

* a fire control system has many components such as sensors, vision devices, ammo control etc.
* Catherine FC is a component of fire control system, not a fire control system by itself.
* it has been integrated with AK since 2005, but shibli electronics helped integrating it with other platforms due incompatibility and other issues. Since AK readily incorporates MIL-STD 1553 databus but others lacked.

All tanks except the AK, require this interface unit to address the compatibility issue..

System Interface Unit
SIU gives the complete vision of Fire Control System to the Thermal Imaging System (TIS).

The SIU picks information from Tank RS232 link and transmits on serial link RS422. It allows the Image of the target / TI aiming mark to follow the Line of Sight in IS Mode. This will enable the Image / TI aiming mark to move and keep itself on the Target. In SFCS Mode, the TI aiming mark can also be displayed by using the ballistic offset generated by Tank Fire Control System. The system status information can also be displayed on Thermal Image.

All right, so whats new abt this deal then? AK has been using its components since 2005 in its overall FCS, so is it that we have brought another subsystem of Catherine besides Thermals?

I know abt thermals, but why bring an international system over yr own domestic product that u manufacture n operate in the first place?

they lack key technologies to design a high quality thermal imager, just like Russia, China, and many others. the focus is on "key technology".
