Up Close With India's Light Combat Helicopter (Prototype 2)

Doubtful, these are still early prototypes and not the final version, so final induction will take some more time. However with Rudra coming in, army and air force will have good alternatives for the meantime and even the development and testing of weapons and techs for LCH will benefit from tests of Rudra too.

I was talking about IOC.Here is a news about in ToI.

"After the first prototype's maiden flight in March 2009, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) says LCH should be ready for the initial operational clearance (IOC) by December 2010," a senior defence ministry official told TOI.

With the final operational clearance (FOC) a year or so after that, the newly revised timeframes hold that the 5.5-tonne LCH should be ready for induction into IAF by 2012-2013.

The project development cost of LCH is currently pegged at only Rs 376.67 crore since it's basically a derivative of the Dhruv ALH (advanced light helicopter) already being inducted into the armed forces.

Indigenous attack chopper to fly in March - Times Of India

But,since its from ToI,this may not be very reliable news.

huge glass windows and armor looks so thin. i wonder if if can handle a few 5mm bullets..

Comeon guys, it's a valid question. The armour does look a bit thinner... what armour is it using? Any details???

They are currently undergoing trails in HAL.I think they should be ready for induction into IAF by sometime this year.

More like 2015 or st best very late 2014 mate. As @sancho pointed out the 3rd prototype is yet to fly and once it does there is a lot of testing to do for it. But yes, this project is in advanced stages but not quite home yet.

It will be interesting to see the TD-3 as it is said this is the final spec and wll be identical to the production machine.

Have a look at the improvements in this prototype
1. Stub wings, they are improved and more aerodynamic in character.

2. Improved Gunpod mounting.
3. Improved Landing Grears (Both front and rear).
4. Redesigned Nose for Pods.
5. Whole body is redesigned (Smooth curve along cockpit-engine area which was not there in In 1st prototype), means more stream lined.

Yaar one newbie question coming up. Kindly adjust!

Always (even on decks of aircraft carrier) I see planes/choppers with the missiles loaded - having these red flags at the tips.

What are they for?

Are they removed before the aircraft takes off?

Or is the missile fired with them still attached?

Thanks in advance! (sheepish ....)

Sir, I suppose you are talking about one such tag

These are warning signs and are removed before flight. These are installed on Fuel hoses, missiles, nose etc.

Remove before flight is a safety warning commonly seen on removable aircraft and spacecraft[1] components, typically in the form of a red ribbon, to indicate that a device, such as a protective cover or a pin to prevent the movement of mechanical parts, is only used when the aircraft is on the ground (parked or taxiing). On small general aviation aircraft, this may include a pitot tube cover or a control lock. In some cases, non-removal of a labeled part have caused airplane crashes. The warning appears in English only.

In Second Prototype Tail fins are also changed :enjoy:

Looks so much better in black :P, not a big fan of the camo

You mean this one....

Do not underestimate us OK...This is a lethal Pakistani helicopter sorry gryocopter...the pilots carry almost 100 hand grenades....and throw them on to targets...it can also accommodate stone...as an emergency or back up weapon. In case hand grenades are finished, pilots can resort to stone pelting....

To troll you choose proxy account. What an idea sirji. :smokin:

Efforts by a troll called Mridul using his mobile to register may lead to Abidongboy and Realist getting banned as collateral damage due to a new system.
Suggest that next post is reported.. otherwise those thanking will also get infractions.

Interesting that people have time while working at thrift shops in east end to register accounts.
