Understanding Sexual Warfare in Kashmir: Prevalence, Consequences

Nothing is worse than half-truths. OP quotes selectively passages out of context to make vitriolic soup which has neither the balance or objectivity nor the honesty of a scholarly work.

I can tape together lowest points of any country and make them seem like pure evil but that is now how we paint the picture. France, USA, Pakistan, China, Japan, India, Spain, Belgium, Iran, Saudi -- all of us have had our lows but they don't define us and neither does this hateful mix of lies and selective snapshots portray India or the brave men of Indian armed forces.

As propaganda goes - good work.. Goebbels would be proud.

India did invade Kashmir in 1947.

That is a deplorable distortion of facts, to suit and justify the veracity of this kid, by a person as well aware and as well read as yourself.

The invasion, my dear @Azlan Haider was by tribals of an INDEPENDENT STATE OF JAMMU & KASHMIR. With full knowledge and connivance of the Pakistani State!!

May I present Maj Gen Agha Humayun Amin (Retd)

https://archive.org/stream/The1947-...2996-The-1947-48-Kashmir-War-Revised_djvu.txt

The same independent state of Jammu & Kashmir which was legalised as an independent state along with Dominion of Pakistan & Dominion of India, by the Indian Independence Act of 1947!

Now the distortion of facts to buff up the credentials of this author who is factually wrong from the first sentence itself??

Well, my friend, he is not FACTUALLY wrong. Just because someone does not agree with your "official position" it doesn't make him factually wrong.

The only fact is that "70 years on and the Kashmiris have not accepted the illegal Indian Invasion/Occupation"

Rest is Propaganda.

But as I stated earlier, we are not discussing the history of Kashmir Dispute here.

Now, can we proceed to discuss the topic ? which is:

"The Use of Rape by Indian Armed Forces as a Deliberate Military Strategy since 1989"

Can you rebut his (well backed up) position on that ?

And after that I have a lot more to share/discuss with you on this topic.

Do you have problem understanding your own post?
"Honorable Mention – Understanding Sexual Warfare in Kashmir: Prevalence, Consequences, and a Feminist Critique"

  1. First it does not mention any Indian govt or soldier in title.
  2. Second by overlooking the rape atrocities committed by terrorists this so called compilation has no credibility whatsoever.
There is no point in us rebutting when the report is itself outrageously biased. At the best it is a one sided propaganda which does selective picking to suit your own interests.

But he is basing his premise on an Indian Invasion. An inaccuracy.

Or are you denying the actual physical occupation of territory by your lashkars? A source of officer of PA being posted as reference.

You see, not only are you trying to justify a thread based on a biased opinion of a kid who is not even aware of the facts, your insistence on toeing a line that the facts are indeed as stated by him, is exactly the misrepresentation of facts and history as has been a state policy, and indeed most of the members here indulge in.

If you want to discuss the topic of the thread, post a source who is factually correct. Otherwise, I yield to the inaccuracies and blatant lie being perpetuated in your post #1.

One can only argue with ignorance and propensity to push an agenda of misrepresentation of facts and distortion of facts to a certain extent. Beyond that, anyone contending otherwise, simply joins the ranks of those on an extended phase of rants as all contentions get based on inaccuracies.

In short, you are asking us to debate a piece of propoganda material, of which, I can churn out hundreds with references. Be pragmatic.

Your call.

Conclusion

This paper explored numerous ways in which Indian security forces employ sexual warfare to demoralize, dominate, and intimidate Kashmiri men and women. Rape is used to collectively shame a community by dishonoring individual women. Sexual assault is employed to psychologically damage wives and mothers, triggering the breakdown of vital marital and family relationships. Public rape and legal and political protections for soldiers undermine male heads of household in their cardinal roles as family protectors. Feminist theory sheds light on why sexual warfare is so effective at disempowering Kashmiri communities; by emasculating their adversaries, Indian security forces strip male leaders of their power. In each of these ways, Indian security forces attack the heart and soul of the insurgent movement: small communities that provide militants with the majority of their resources and support.

It is an opinion of one single person which has no value whatsoever. Its like the opinion of Arnab goswami. You can publish your own paper with your own opinion but that will have zilch credibility.

The guy has included www.hrw.org as reference.
[1] Human Rights Watch. “Rape in Kashmir: A Crime of War.” Human Rights Watch 5, no. 9 (1993): 1-5. Accessed November 24, 2014. <http://www.hrw.org/reports/1993/05/01/rape-kashmir>.

But has conveniently missed the part about terrorists from the same hrw.org, why ? not hard to know the reason.

Rape by Militant Groups

Better go through the post and then respond instead of posting lies & half truths.

dont quote me again if you are just interesting in peddling some xyz's view or opinion. I am interested in air fairy your view vs my view discussion.

Biggest Democracy my ***.
There is a saying in India ,that donkey will not know the smell of perfume. Being in a country which had dictatorship running half of its history you must be the last person on earth to comment on democracy.
On a side note given the way democracy is in your country you must really have a stinking ***.

^^ Rhetoric with no Substance

Rhetoric is taking isolated instances, falsely exaggerating & extrapolating them and then imposing a meaningless pattern to sprout non-sense.

Some elements in Pakistani Army were involved in Mumbai Attack -> Pakistani Army conducted Mumbai Attacks -> Pakistani Army is a terrorist organization.

One can play this game..So go ahead...end result will not be pleasant.

So let me get thos straight you are posting alleged rapes by militants to justify mass rapes by Indian occupational forces?

Get it straight dude , I am not justifying any thing. Just pointed out its a phony biased propaganda.

Like rest of your ilk did you conveniently miss this? if so how so nice of you to do the cherry picking.

"Abuses in Kashmir continue to mount, including deaths in custody, disappearances, torture and rape. In a welcome step, the government has publicized a number of prosecutions of security personnel for rape and other abuses. However, the number of security force members actually sentenced remains very small relative to the number of known abuses"

^^ The most lame and pathetic excuse one could come up with for justifying Rape and Torture being committed by the Indian Armed Forces in occupied Kashmir.

Whatever happened in Bangladesh (and India too was "involved" in that), that was 50 years ago... What else would you bring up for justifying the war crimes being committed by the Indian Armed Forces in Kashmir ? The US troops raped more than 10,000 women in Germany in 1945, Over 100,000 women were raped in Berlin alone by the Allied Forces. Or "The Rape of Belgium" during WW1 ... You will find a lot of such examples in History.

BUT the Indian Armed Forces are using Rape and Torture as a deliberate military strategy against an Ongoing popular insurgency in Occupied Kashmir.

Since 1990, more than 10,000 Kashmiri women have been molested by the Indian Troops. And the Indian Armed Forces continue to play havoc with the life and honor of the Innocent Kashmiris to this day.
Why should I not raise my voice against the heinous crime committed by Pakistani professional army in east Bengal 50yrs back, while you have been beating a dead horse for 70 yrs (UN resolution), on which Pakistan has built her case all along.

@Azlan Haider Rebuttal for you.

The paper is trash.

First line is starting with Indian invading Jammu and Kashmir in 1947.

That is the travesty of facts, blatant lie and a post meant as a flame bait and troll fest.

There, I debunk your post with the opening line of the Paper itself.

Since the Indian invasion of 1947, the northern state of Jammu and Kashmir has been plagued by fierce armed conflict and political tension. Kashmiri insurgents have organized into over a dozen regionalist rebel groups and demand independence from India or accession to Pakistan.

@Joe Shearer The rebuttal. Refer our communication. Author could not be a bigger liar. I can post numerous such Op Eds too. I yield the floor to you. @Azlan Haider I respected, today am dismayed by his posting a blatantly inaccurate and biased post of a dubious kid.

This post was meant to bait, troll and flame. I foretold it.

@Rain Man @jbgt90 @Pulsar @Nilgiri

Joseph English is half Pakistani, now you know where his bias is coming from!
