UNITED NATIONS: In wake of increased incidents of ceasefire violations across Line of Control (LOC) over the past ten days, UN Secretary-General Antonio Gutteres on Monday urged both Pakistan and India to resolve the issue through a dialogue to avert the causalities.

Responding to questions at the regular briefing in New York, UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric said that the UN chief is ready to mediate peace talks between India and Pakistan provided the two neighbours accept his good offices.

The spokesman underscored that the secretary general’s good offices work only when both parties agree to mediation, adding that the UN chief was following the situation in the disputed Kashmir region as clashes between the troops of two neighbouring countries along the LOC had escalated, and called for talks between the two countries.

Earlier on Monday, Chief of Army Staff, General Qamar Javed Bajwa had visited the Line of Control (LOC) and Working Boundary in Khuiratta/Ratta Aryan sectors, where he was briefed about Indian ceasefire violations specifically targeting civil population across the LoC and Working Boundary.

COAS General Bajwa appreciated effective and a responsible response of Pakistani troops to Indian unethical targeting and high morale of troops and civilians.

The Army Chief directed for enhanced protective measures including construction of more community shell protection shelters for civil population.

According to Indian media, The BSF has fired over 9,000 rounds of mortar shells across LOC in the past four days.

While Pakistan has repeatedly condemned the unprofessional approach of targeting innocent civilians by the Indian army from across the Line of Control.

Unable should not try to jump above its weight. Pakistan can handle India on any given day. Besides India has always rubbished UN resolutions on Kashmir calling it a bilateral matter.

but then being hypocrite about kulbushan

Unnecessary loss of life on both sides ... Pakistan and India should resolve this dispute through negotiations (with or without UN )... People of Kashmir regardless of what side of LoC they hail from have suffered a lot.... Instead of viewing the problem through a religious or nationalistic lens, we should consider Kashmir as a humanitarian issue

What UN can offer to resolve the kashmir issue between pak and ind rather then ensuring the ceasefire at LOC?

:D

(just like the Simla Agreement says .... )

UN can redeem itself by solving the oldest territorial dispute on its table. Otherwise it will probably turn into a nuclear flashpoint with the Indian aggression and complete refusal to sit and talk.

He first needs to get himself educated and read the UN resolution over Kashmir which is piling dust over it all these years in his office.

In the meantime, we are handling India just fine. Infact, the UN chief to come up with offer mean that we are doing something right on LOC and border.

UN lost it's credibility after the failure of resolving the oldest major dispute. What is the use of UN then?

Again please tell how is India contributing it to be a nuclear flashpoint.

Firstly We have a No First Use policy. Any nuclear adventure will start from your side.

Secondly We also don't have any policy of crossing the IB or LoC unless provoked. So it is upto Pakistan to reign in its "non state actors" Dont arm and supply money to "freedom fighters" and we will be OK

Thirdly What is there to talk about?
  • India will not give up its territory and so will Pakistan.
  • The so called "Confidence Building Measures" and "People to People Contacts" have not worked for 70 years so don't expect them to work now.
  • The trade is negligible and already in India's favour
  • Tourist exchange is negligible
  • Leftist Liberals continue to attend conferences in Delhi and Islamabad - no body is stopping them and nothing is coming as an outcome of these conferences
  • Every 4 years our cricket teams are playing against each other in World Cups and we are happy with that
  • Medical Visas are being issued by Sushma Swaraj on Twitter and we are happy with that also.
  • Kulbhushan is being taken care by the ICJ. Whatever way it goes we are happy. If you free him it is a diplomatic victory for us. If you hang him we go to the world saying that Pakistan did not follow the principal of natural justice by denying a man a trial in the open court and counselor access. Both of us are aware of the fact that the world takes note of India's voice better than Pakistan
Give me a single reason why India should talk?
