Ukraine on Brink of Missile Deal with India

Not really. It could simply be the fact that we're getting a good deal on the missiles.

If not that, then Sonia Gandhi just got some more millions in her Swiss bank accounts...:coffee:

Its something which wont be revealed soon.... Going for R-27 which can be upsetting for Russia doesnot seem sensible..
May be something for Arihanth or, new secret missile in making..

May be Russians don't have know how of this soviet missile and they would like it for 5th Gen jet. So India is getting it and may be TOT or just material for Russian reverse engineering. We will never come to know

What the hell? Instead of buying from Vympel we are going for Ukrainian versions? Something doesn't feel right. Also is the fact that the deal is worth not even $1 million. "Nezavisimaya Gazeta says the deal for R-27 missiles, worth hundreds of thousands of dollars, is in the final stages and is waiting for approval from the Ukrainian leadership." or in other words Less than a million dollars. How many R-27s can be bought with less than a million? Most probably we are buying some really-cheap close-to-shelf-life old-versions for practicing rookies.

On one hand we spend $1200 million for the Mica and on the other we have this <1 million dollar deal for these missiles.

Russian Vympel R-27s generally are more immune to jamming, and also has more hit probability than the R-77. The main reason why this semi-active missile is still preferred over the fire and forget R-77.

our officers slept with some ukrainian chicks... thats why this deal has passed. It is a common trend to lure our officers

If you are depressed, take a break. I can see you are trolling in all threads with same argument.

post reported for trolling.

India wants to become a big purchaser of Ukrainian Arms so that it denies Pakistan the ability to purchase arms from Ukraine.

Pakistan bought over 300 Tanks from Ukraine 1995 and all of India went crazy.

So this could be a pathetic attempt to prevent that from happening in the future.

pakistani member can't resist themself from draging Pakistan into every matter.

Chicha...This is called Diplomatic Politics...another fact not everyone can do this... U need particular balls for this.

True india has the r-77 bvr,but the r-27 has different seeker.Using different types of bvr's fools enemy countermeasures better.

I still dont get the logic of buying an older generation missile, that too passive guidance. The only silver lining is that the active version has a better kill probability than the amramski
Does any one have more ainfo if the seekers are upgraded?Or some design changes on the exterior?

This has more to do with minimizing isolation of 3rd party countries (on th peripheries of major ones) Than it i to do with arms acquisition
keeping them under favorable terms diplomatically is never a bad move....i don't believe India is in desperate need of these missiles. Putting those left over funds to good use i guess.

 The usual anything what India does must have a relation to Pakistan complex.

When we put that aside, we can see several other reasons for this procurment, which are way more likely. It was reported that older Russian missiles in IAF inventory had issues with their life and might be replaced earlier than planned initially. Since Astra is not ready yet, it would be very logical to add some cost-effective missiles, especially if the deal is as cheap as expected in the article.
Another reason can be change of tactics, since the IR seeker and the long range, provides passive BVR combat capability, just like MICA IR. A twin shoot of R27 and R77 then will be hard to counter, since you have to use chaff, flares and jamming at the same time, while you will detect the IR missile only very late too.

Aren't you over-estimating Pakistan's importance in India's arsenal?

actually due to passive seekers these missiles are immune to ECM/jamming. Maybe DRDO need them for astra .. who knows.
