UK wants stronger economic ties with Pakistan : British Dy HC

KARACHI, Jan. 22 (APP): British Deputy High Commissioner in Karachi and Director UK Trade and Investment (Pakistan), Hamish St. Clair Daniel on Tuesday said his country wanted to further strengthen economic ties with Pakistan by exploiting new avenues to enhance the mutual trade and investment.
During his four years tenure as Director , United Kingdom Trade and Investment here, British investment in Pakistan has significantly increased and more than 100 British companies with their offices in Pakistan were evolved in trade within the country, he said during a meeting with members of Karachi Chambers of Commerce and Industry at its Secretariat here.

This was his farewell visit to KCCI as he is scheduled to leave Pakistan very soon. He was accompanied by a group of senior officers of British High Commission in Islamabad, who explained the new policy initiative about business visa to United Kingdom.

The British Deputy High Commissioner said Pakistan is facing many challenges but has the resilience to convert these challenges into opportunities of development.

Mr Hamish said Karachi is a very potential city for trade and investment. The image of Karachi depicts the image of Pakistan in the world , he said adding that the perception about Karachi could be changed by organising international exhibitions and trade fairs.

He appreciated that now Pakistan has better customers in Britain as well.

He recognized the KCCI leadership for strengthening the industrial sector in Pakistan, and economic ties between UK and Pakistan.

He recalled his ancestral relations with this part of the sub-continent which is now Pakistan. His father was a pilot of Royal Air Force and was posted in this area in 1945.

He said ninety nine percent people of Pakistan are very loving and that he has great attachment with this country. During his stay in Karachi , he had also visited interior of Sindh, he said.

President KCCI , Shamim Ahmed Shamsi , and two former KCCI presidents Siraj Kassam Teli and M. Zubair Motiwala praised Mr. Daniel for supporting Pakistan business community, and facilitating the promotion of trade and investment between the two countries.
