RAWALPINDI, Nov 26: The British government has offered to donate ‘Dfuze Explosives Intelligence Management System’ — a powerful tool for data entry, linking, searching and retrieval — to the Federal Investigation Agency’s Special Investigation Group (SIG).

The system can store reports, including photographs and videos of all terror-related incidents, provide access to the international network of ‘Bomb Data Centres’ of law-enforcement communities around the world.

The system, to be installed at FIA headquarters in Islamabad, will be connected with all officers of the Special Investigation Group (SIG) through a satellite link.

The source said the UK government had also offered funding for the installation of the system.

A retired army officer, who is an explosives expert, has already been posted as in-charge of the ‘Bomb Data System’ in the Special Investigation Group.

Director General (DG) FIA Tariq Pervez said the system would “enable us to get and share information about how many bombing incidents had taken place in Pakistan as well as around the world and which type of explosives had been used in the incidents”.

FIA experts believe that the system will improve the analytical capabilities besides helping the agency to assess future threats.
