Conservative British lawmaker David Amess was killed on Friday after being stabbed “multiple times” during an event in his local constituency in southeast England, in the second death of a UK politician while meeting voters since 2016.
Local police did not name Amess but said a man had been arrested “on suspicion (of) murder” after another man had been stabbed and died in Leigh-on-Sea.

@ghazi52 .. who could it be ?

“We are not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident,” said Essex police, adding that the man in custody was aged 25, and a knife was recovered.

Sir David Amess dies: Terror police leading probe into MP's fatal stabbing
Gareth Davies, Breaking News Editor Martin Evans, Crime Correspondent

Just after midday, Essex Police were called to reports of a stabbing in Eastwood Road North in Leigh-on-sea.

Counter-terror police are leading the investigation into the fatal attack on the Conservative MP Sir David Amess, who was stabbed multiple times at his constituency surgery.

Sir David, the MP for Southend West in Essex, was killed on Friday at Belfairs Methodist Church in Leigh-on-Sea, and a British man of Somalian origin was arrested on suspicion of murder.

Paramedics tried for two hours to save the 69-year-old father-of-five, but he died of his injuries and figures across the political spectrum have paid tribute to the "irreplaceable" MP.

Essex Police said a 25-year-old man was arrested, and officers were not looking for anybody else in connection with the incident.

A witness who described seeing the suspect being taken away by the police - who are still seeking to establish a motive - said he was calm and compliant.
Ben-Julian Harrington, the Chief Constable of Essex Police, said: "It will be for investigators to determine whether or not this is a terrorist incident."
