UK: Heroin hoard found in carpets from Pakistan

Border Force officers at the Manchester Airport have seized a large amount of heroin worth millions of pounds which was hidden inside a shipment of carpets from Pakistan in one of the largest drug seizures at the airport.

The seizure of the drug smuggled in a novel way was made when officers became suspicious of a 46-piece consignment of hand-made knotted carpets that had arrived from Peshawar via Abu Dhabi, official sources said on Friday.

A detector dog immediately alerted its handler to one of the carpets and further examination revealed a highly sophisticated concealment where the drug was woven into the fabric of the carpet. Several other carpets also tested positive for heroin.

Around 50 kilos of heroin have so far been found but examination of the load is continuing and the final total could be far greater. Two people have been arrested on suspicion of drug importation offences in London.

Linda Paul, Assistant Director for Border Force, said: “This is an extremely impressive seizure…At this stage it is impossible to put an exact value on the drugs because forensic tests have yet to be carried out. Pakistan borders Afghanistan, who continues to have record Opium production year after year. As Iran tightens its grip on their shared border in order to stem the flow of high-grade opium, the traffickers will naturally shift more of the smuggling through alternative routes.

The Pakistani government is no more responsible for this than the Columbian government is for all the cocaine worldwide.

Pakistan borders Afghanistan, who continues to have record Opium production year after year. As Iran tightens its grip on their shared border in order to stem the flow of high-grade opium, the traffickers will naturally shift more of the smuggling through alternative routes.

The Pakistani government is no more responsible for this than the Columbian government is for all the cocaine worldwide.

But how can you explain when truck crosses from PAK Border to Indian border? Checking of its contents also happen at PAK border by its soldiers .

Also many PAK citizens along with drugs killed on one of the most fortified Indo Pak border , where person with drugs can move from PAK side to its border. Or Digging of Tunnel?

It is logistically impossible to check every inch of every vehicle, coming or going. Even more so with a dog, which is how this was eventually caught.

Also, security on outgoing vehicles is naturally more lax than incoming. Leaving the US, you get waived through the land border to Mexico without stopping. Coming back into the US, you can wait in line for 3 hours or more due to the screening.

Any company cannot export or import with Import Export Code, Which mean company needs to be register with govt. of PAK, more over their would be banking transportation chargers. etc.

I don't think you don't know how import export is done. and paper work is done.
