UFO closes Chinese airport
METRO REPORTER - 5th October, 2010Witnesses claim they saw a 'flat and tubular' object hovering around two miles from Baotou, Inner Mongolia, forcing three flights from Beijing and Shanghai to be diverted to airports nearby.
The panic apparently stemmed from the Unidentified Flying Object circling the airport and vanishing without warning.
It was first spotted by air traffic controllers in Hohhot, the capital of Inner Mongolia, who noticed the mysterious figure on their radar screens.
After attempting to make contact with it - and failing - they sent out warnings to the airport in Baotou.
Though Chinese authorities have refused to comment on the incident, an airport spokeswoman said that the diversions were carried out 'to avoid a collision'.
The incident joins seven other sightings in China since the end of June
