The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has banned Careem and Uber, from operating within the premises of Jinnah International Airport in Karachi. According to CAA, both the companies have been informed that the ruling will be in effect as long as they fail to meet the legal requirements of the Sindh Transport Authority.

CAA Additional Joint Director (Vigilance) Tariq Ahmed Siddiqui wrote a letter to the two ride-hailing companies stating that their operations at the airport would be considered illegal and that they “exploit the business of registered cab companies.” According to the letter, the companies have also been asked to update their websites and apps to reflect that they are barred from offering pick and drop services at the Karachi airport.

Earlier, the Jinnah International Airport management had placed warning signs at the airport regarding the ban on Careem and Uber services and the cars found violating will be impounded. The Transport Secretary had also written to the airport management to explain that the two ride-hailing companies are not in compliance with various laws, which is why they must be barred from entry to the airport till the services gain legal cover from the transport authorities.

Lebanon judge seeks death penalty for UK diplomat’s alleged killer

An investigative judge in Lebanon has demanded the death penalty for a man who allegedly raped and murdered a British diplomat in Beirut. The judge referred the case to a public trial.

The indictment, a copy of which was obtained by the Guardian, identified Tarek Houshieh, an Uber driver, as the only suspect in the killing of Rebecca Dykes, who worked with the British embassy in Beirut.

It claimed that Houshieh had confessed to the crimes and referred his case to the criminal court, charging him with premeditated murder.

Dykes’s body was found in December on the Metn highway leading out of Beirut. She had disappeared after spending an evening with friends at a bar in Gemmayzeh, a nightlife district in the Lebanese capital.

Houshieh, a Lebanese national, had allegedly picked up Dykes from Gemmayzeh after she requested an Uber ride. The indictment alleged that instead of driving her home, he raped and then choked her to death before driving to the highway to get rid of her body, and later disposed of her purse and identity papers.

Dykes had worked as a programme and policy manager with the Department for International Development and as a policy manager with the Libya team at the Foreign Office, according to her LinkedIn page.

She had previously worked as an Iraq research analyst with the FCO. She had a degree from the University of Manchester and a master’s in international security and global governance from Birkbeck, University of London.

Lebanese police had identified the suspect after tracking his car on CCTV cameras and tracing his mobile phone activities.

Lebanese judges have continued to sentence suspects to death in recent years, but no execution has been carried out since 2004 because of an unofficial moratorium. Some politicians have called for the reinstatement of capital punishment in recent years.

If convicted, the suspect could face life in prison in lieu of the death penalty for the alleged crimes, which include both premeditated murder and attempting to conceal the offence from law enforcement.

She was undercover British Operative and she was raped, then strangled to death. It DOES NOT means all UBER Drivers are MI-6 Operatives, but this is how intelligence agencies work!!!!

The **** does that have to do with me ordering a ride to go somewhere.

This is bad news. The registered cab companies at the airport are horrible, they charge you 3-5 times more, their cars are unmaintained and horrible, and they have no sense of customer service. The CAA and the cab companies can go kiss my ***.

it was always banned to support other taxi services as i have experienced my self when driver said dont tell any one that i am from Careem or Uber or they will not allow me to enter, while no one knew who is from careem or uber and who came just to see off:partay:

That is not true. Metro cabs are also in good condition and yes they charge you extra but your luggage will be in save hands rather tha xyz careem rider.

Makes sense if you look at the history

But Pakistan should make a regulatory body which does checking for occupations for everyone
That will help lower the crime as well
Yes monitoring is mandatory and changes in law also necessary but problem is this there is decades old transportation law implemented on new technology based companies so it will create more problems for companies and public. Jin ka kaam hy law banana wo to satu pi k soye rhty hain

In first week of March when Islamabad Airport reopen my friend was coming from Saudia after performing Umrah and a cab company in Airport charge Rs3000 from Airport to F-10 but when I checked with Careem Go+ ride only charge Rs700 on same distance with Airport Toll including

Don't think you have been in one before then. Their cars from the inside are messed up, the outside not cleaned and filled with scratches, they don't take any care of their vehicles or the comfort of customer. The AC is kept off by default too, unless you really press them on it.

Careem on the other hand, is much, much more professional. Their people are given training on how to deal and approach a customer. The kind of service I have experienced with Careem is unparalled to the cab services at airport, there's a reason their businesses are failing: it's because they have competition that is better than them.
