UAE completes 62 of 127 development projects in Pakistan


The UAE makes great strides in providing facilities such as schools and roads

Sixty-two projects out of 127 have been accomplished in Pakistan.

The UAE project management for assisting Pakistan announced the UAE-backed project, which comes in line with President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan's directives, is making excellent strides in education, water facilities, roads and bridges and other areas of development.

Abdullah Khalifa Al Gafli, the project manager, said 19 education projects had been completed, along with 42 water projects, and one roads and bridges project.

He added 30 other projects are to be completed over the next three months and the rest will be concluded by early next year.

Populated areas

Al Gafli said 19 school projects had been completed while 17 are in the final stages of completion among the 52 schools in the overall project for Pakistan.

Regarding water projects, he said 42 had been completed and handed over and those projects are a part of the 64 water projects within the scheme costing $6 million (Dh22 million.)

Al Gafli also said a 330-metre-long Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Bridge will be used by 70,000 people and 5,000 vehicles a day. It will be inaugurated in March and will connect two vital and highly populated areas, he added.

UAE-Pakistan ministers' meeting confirms strong ties

The discussions focused on ways to further enhance economic and commercial ties

The meeting between the UAE and Pakistani Foreign Ministers confirmed the continued strong alliance and cooperation between the two countries.

Shaikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Hina Rabbani Khar, Foreign Minister of Pakistan, met on Monday in the 10th session of the Pakistan-UAE Joint Ministerial Commission (JMC).

The discussions focused on ways to further enhance economic and commercial ties between the two countries. Among the objectives of the event is also Pakistan's aim for garnering support as they negotiate a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with the GCC.

The meeting also addressed the exchange and safety of human labour. The UAE remains one of Pakistan's major countries for employment. The country is home to about 1.2 million employed Pakistanis.
