Backtracking: Abid Sher Ali appreciates K-P govt’s efforts to curb power theft

PESHAWAR: Making a u-turn after a series of controversial statements, Minister of State for Water and Power Abid Sher Ali lauded the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) government for controlling power theft. Ali said this on Wednesday at a joint news conference with K-P Governor Sardar Mehtab Abbasi at Governor House, Peshawar.

The state minister went on to tell reporters that the centre did not blame the K-P government for electricity theft. Earlier in January, Ali had said the provincial government was backing power thieves and had blamed several Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf parliamentarians, including Shah Farman, for allowing their constituents to steal power.

However, on Wednesday, Ali appreciated Chief Minister Pervez Khattak’s efforts to curb theft and increase recovery.

K-P’s struggle to upgrade their power system will improve conditions in the province, he said. Positive results can be seen, such as additional electricity in the national grid, however, Ali added, the hot weather meant rough patches can be expected.

On the occasion, Abbasi said only Rs6 billion were left to be paid to the provincial government out of Rs125 billion in hydel profits. Any complaints by the K-P government can be taken up by the Council of Common Interests, he added.

Dasu Dam

Ali also shared the government’s plans to soon construct Dasu Dam with help of international aid. The project is expected to generate 4,000 megawatt (MW) of electricity eventually.

The World Bank issued a statement on Tuesday, approving a financing package for the development of the Dasu Hydropower Project, stage 1. According to the statement, the dam will have a 2,160MW plant on Indus River which can be expanded to generate 4,320MW at a later date.

Even a psycho like Abid Sher Ali is forced to praise K-P govt's efforts.

Appreciate the guy, N-League has really come across as a sensible party...

@Jazzbot there must be a political motive behind his statement... he is a punjabi racist and total janwar admi... even if he is praising, he is upto something.. just dont trust any noora, they are all the same lot; haramkhor.

This guy is useless and same applies to his statements, when he opens his mouth it seems like some Gali chaap ignorant is talking.

I don't see what is to appreciate on the ground, except for political appeasement
According to the latest documents on receivables as of April 2014 available with The News, the provinces are required to pay Rs87.256 billion that include Sindh’s Rs54.547 billion, KP Rs20.540 billion, Punjab Rs6.619 billion, Balochistan Rs5.550 billion and the AJK’s Rs36.693 billion.

The shocking fact is that the government has failed to collect electricity bills from private sector consumers as this sector has emerged as the biggest defaulter owing a mammoth Rs345.386 to the Pakistan Electric Power Company (Pepco).

Criticizing bad deeds and appreciating the efforts to curb them down is a U-Turn... strange

KPK government isn't even willing to take the custody of PESCO since this will put the theft load directly on their shoulders. They are only good for "raiding" the house of PESCO chief to hide their own heinous support for theft

KPK govt was always ready to take full custody of P-Electric Supply-CO. Without control over electric supply, PESCO is nothing. Don't open that old pandora box again and again, we've already discussed this to death.

@hasnain0099 watch it my friend. We do not take sides per se. But if this is how you wish to proceed then it is really unfortunate. Point out ONE post of mine which is unbalanced or which makes fun of your POV.

TT etc.. are selected on basis of their knowledge, post quality, online demeanor. If some of them happen to be PTI suppoters, then that is not something that is really a matter of interest in their selection.

You could be at least a TTA, but your online demeanor is a weakness that is a concern.

This is a DEFENCE issues forum where many people discuss politics. We do not decide who gets elected. We have no say in government policies as well. If you do not like the manner and quality of PTI supporters here, then this is not something unique to PDF. I suppose you have a twitter account? If so, you probably follow some Pakistani journalists. Name ONE journalist who has not been hounded by PTI supporters? This is how most PTI supporters are: young, angry, holier-than-thou, insulting, and I-know-better-than-you types.

PDF is not unique in this. PTI supporters here are just more aggressive than others. That should not get your BP up. There are few moderators and we are more busy dealing with trolls than dealing with intra-Pakistani bickering based on politics.

Do you have the ability to cut back on sarcasm? Can you keep your balance even when provoked? If so, I would nominate you for a TTA title. The overall quality of your posts is good. Your knowledge base is good. But your sarcasm and attacks on us really really suck.

Take it as an advise from someone who thinks highly of you and wishes you to contribute more positively. Thanks.
