The U.S. would “utterly destroy” the North Korean military in a war, the U.S. army’s top uniformed official said on Thursday.

Army Chief of Staff General Mark Milley warned, however, that war in the Korean peninsula would be “highly deadly,” bearing a high cost in terms of human life, infrastructure and economic fallout.

“War in the Korean peninsula would be terrible, however a nuclear weapon detonating in Los Angeles would be [even more] terrible,” Milley said in a speech to the National Press Club in Washington, about America’s security threats. “North Korea is the single, most-dangerous threat facing the international community and the U.S. today”

In the past year, North Korean ruler Kim Jong Un has test-fired 28 ballistic missiles, which is more than his father and grandfather during their entire reigns combined.

Since the test launch of what U.S. experts believe to be an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) with the potential of reaching Alaska on July 4, North Korean state media have talked up the country’s nuclear strength, repeatedly threatening a “pre-emptive nuclear strike” to the “heart” of the U.S.

Milley warned that, given Pyongyang’s progress with it's ICBM testing, the time to stop North Korea from obtaining nuclear weapons, a key point in the U.S.'s security strategy, had shortened significantly.

“Time is running out, North Korea is extremely dangerous and it gets more dangerous as time goes by,” he said.

Milley said he did not think there were any good options when considering measures to contain the threat from North Korea.

“Choices will have to be made, one way or the other. None of these choices are particularly palatable, none of them are good. The consequences of doing nothing is not good, the consequences of accepting them with a nuclear weapon that can strike at the United States is not good, the consequences of armed conflict is not good, the consequences of a collapsed North Korea is not good," he said.

"But it does not relieve us of the responsibility of choice. We are going to have to make conscious decisions that are going to have significant consequences," he added.

Now that is a threat and a half. Why no hindu Hanuman trolls in here making fun of real US threats to NK?

Hindus can only troll China for not having balls only because 1-2 Months have passed and no military action from our side. US has been tolerating DPRK for couple of years now. Hindus will never admit US lacks balls based on having a big mouth and making constant threats but no military actions against our neighbor. Anyone with some common sense knows one does not declare war right away for something as small as what the Hindus did. Look at DPRK, nuke and BM tests almost capable of reaching US (this is more urgent issue and yet US does not dare to declare war officially at this moment).

The US has been tolerating the DPRK for six decades. And look, the OP left another of his "contributions" out in the open. He really enjoys practicing the intellectual equivalent of open defecation.

He boasts, "communes with nature," and hates on China like some people we know. Is OP a false flagger?

Not 6 decades, just couple of years because DPRK wasn't a "threat". Every since the first nuke test DPRK has become a "threat" all of a sudden. More nuke and missile tests followed and still no war, so where are the Hindus trolling about balls? But hey if it's China only 1-2 months passed and they start jumping out like baboons shouting China is a paper tiger or lack of balls. India won hoorrayyyyyy

You are confusing capability with intent.

Eh, don't see why or how. Especially since the U.S., China, and S.K. have likely been working out a modus vivendi on this for decades.
I am not confused, even with intent and capability, they won't attack for a simple fact that Russia and China will never allow a unified Korea. If they dare to attack, it's WWIII, why do you think the Korean War happened? China will never allow NK to fall, they might allow Kim to fall tho.

The most powerful country in the world bullying, threatening and provoking one of the poorest, most sanctioned country in the world. Yet no one calls this bullying because of decades of evil US media propaganda.

I do not think North Korea is one of the poorest country in the world. In many aspects, it looks more developed than most developing countries with GDP per capita in the range of $8000 - 10000.

The problem is that almost all data about North Korea are from Western regimes and their propaganda machines to make it look bad. No one with a brain can trust these.

Can a small country with GDP per capita of $2,000 has money to develop intercontinental ballistic missile, or rocket to launch satellite into orbit, and in the meantime, make their cities (70 - 80% of population) world-class, like North Korea do. I doubt.

It would be if he actually said that. The headline frames the story that way, but the tone of his speech is far more cautionary as is evident in some of his language such as 'Choices will have to be made, one way or the other. None of these choices are particularly palatable, none of them are good' and 'the consequences of armed conflict is not good, the consequences of a collapsed North Korea is not good'. The words 'utterly destroy' do not appear to have come from General Milley himself but the clickbait sub-editor who framed the story.

But I guess that is not how some posters on this thread want to interpret the speech, it's easier to just read the headline and engage in reactive thought processes.
