Taipei, Jan. 30 (CNA) Some 10 members of the United States Congress have pledged support and assistance for Taiwan's participation in regional economic integration and for stronger U.S.-Taiwan economic relations when speaking to President Ma Ying-jeou on the phone, officials said Thursday.

During a 24-hour layover in Los Angeles on his way back from Central America, Ma used every available minute to speak with 20 current and former U.S. politicians by phone, members of Ma's delegation said.

Among the people Ma spoke to were former President Bill Clinton, former Secretaries of State Hillary Clinton and Condoleezza Rice and former Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld.

In his conversations with 10 members of Congress, the 63-year-old president expressed Taiwan's determination and willingness to participate in the U.S.-led Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), according to the officials.

Many U.S. Congress members showed support and promised to fully assist Taiwan's bid to join the TPP, they added.

The U.S. members of Congress Ma called included Senators Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), James Inhofe (R-OK) and Reps. Devin Nunes (R-CA), Brad Sherman (D-CA) and Charles Rangel (D-NY).

Ma returned to Taiwan early Thursday after visiting Sao Tome and Principe, Burkina Faso in Africa, and Honduras for the inauguration of President Juan Orlando Hernandez on Jan. 27. It was Ma's ninth overseas trip since he took office in 2008.

The USA should support Taiwan in every possible way as it strives to retain its democratic political system in the face of the authoritarian bully it faces across the Formosan Strait. In fact, the USA should adopt a "two-China" policy now while there is still time. If the mainline Chinese people ever throw off the dictatorship of the Communist Party, then, perhaps, a "one China" could be born.

Sun Li-jen - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

First, Sun was reassigned as the ceremonial chief military adviser to Chiang Kai-Shek in June 1954, preventing him from directly controlling any troops. In 1950, Chiang's son became director of his father's secret police, a position he held until 1965.[1] The son, educated in the Soviet Union, initiated Soviet style military organization in the Republic of China military, reorganizing and Sovietizing the officer corps, instituting surveillance. Opposed to this was Sun Li-jen, who was educated at the American Virginia Military Institute.[2] Chiang's son orchestrated the controversial arrest and court-martial of Sun in August 1955, allegedly for plotting a coup d'état with the American CIA against his father. The CIA allegedly wanted to help Sun take control of Taiwan and declare its independence.[3][4] Sun remained under house arrest for more than three decades: he was not released until March 20, 1988, shortly after the death of Chiang Ching-kuo.

China is way too powerful now.

We will overtake you and you will smile and like it.
