US considers mid-long range missile deployment in Asia to counter China

I liked the concept of using long range artillery as well.

In addition to the new barrel, ERCA will employ improved munitions. The ERCA program is developing the XM1113 Insensitive Munition High Explosive Rocket Assisted Projectile or XM1113 RAP. When this round is fired from the new 58-caliber cannon, ranges of up to 70 km have been achieved in recent tests. Improved propellants could increase this to 100 or more kilometers. This will allow the new system to out-range current Russian and Chinese artillery systems. The Army also is looking to add a precision guidance kit to its longer-range munitions to improve the accuracy of each round fired.

You know nothing about artillery. The original design of M109 is 23 caliber. The modified version is 39 caliber which is a success. The 45/52 caliber failed already, now tell me how to get 58 caliber on the damn M109. This is called stupidity.

The cannon fodder don't understand cannon, really sad.

It's kind of like 5′ 7″ (170) boasted 56 inches chest. You want a bigger xxx to boast, no match.

Arnold Schwarzenegger

Height: 6 feet 2 inches. Weight: 118 kg. Waist: 34 inches. And the chest, a whopping 58 inches. Five years of hard and heavy chest-pumping regime — bench press, incline bench press and dumbbell exercises — was what it took for the ‘Terminator’ to increase his chest size from 39 inches to the magnificent 58 inches befitting Mr Olympia.

The Army has successfully test ERCA 58 caliber out to 70km for some time now. And its expected to reach 100km in the near future.

Just take a look at m109, 27.5 tons. LMAO
US spent a lot of money on the LRPF(Long Range Precision Fires ) project, the range reply on something like below.

It's not traditional projectile at all. precision is the key for 70km - 100km. It will have to use GPS, and many other things, such as

It will be quite expensive.

Almost off balance. How to move on terrain field, how fast M109 can run with a big big 58 caliber cannon?

If US can keep the price low, that's all good. But very unlikely.

The U.S. Army has fielded its next-generation artillery system being manufactured by BAE Systems to GREYWOLF brigade.

On Monday, the 1st Cavalry Division tweet said that the GREYWOLF brigade has received Paladin M109A7 Artillery Systems, the latest howitzers in the BAE Systems M109 family.

“Say hello to the M109A7 Paladin, and the most recent addition to the GREYWOLF Family!,” said in a tweet. “The modernization efforts we make now, will enhance combat power within America’s FIRSTTEAM, the U.S. Army, and entire Department of Defense during future large scale ground combat operations!”

The M109A7 will replace the current M109A6 Self-Propelled Howitzer, formerly known as the Paladin Integrated Management program, as one of the Army’s most critical combat vehicle modernization programs.

This next-generation howitzer incorporates enhanced capabilities such as a brand new chassis, engine, transmission, suspension, and steering system – components common to the Army’s Bradley Fighting Vehicles. This commonality reduces overall program cost and the logistical footprint coupled with improved survivability to maintain dominance on the battlefield.

The M109A7 is considered to be the most cost-effective method to significantly improve sustainability and survivability, while reducing the logistics burden on the U.S. Army Armored Brigade Combat Team and supporting fires brigades.

The Army has accepted delivery of first low-rate initial production M109A7 self-propelled howitzer on April 9, 2014.

Would love to see them in Pak colours, maybe we can upgrade our M109s to better standards using Turkish or Chinese technologies!
