JAMMU: A self-styled tehsil commander of Hizbul-Mujahideen and another militant were shot dead by army troops in Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir
here on Friday.
Acting on information about the presence of some militants in Batyas forest belt of Gandoh tehsil in Doda district, security forces launched a cordon and search operation today morning, defence spokesperson S N Acharya said.
In the gunbattle that followed the two Hizb militants were killed, Acharya said, adding that one of them is Hizb's tehsil commander.
They have been identified as Zahoor Khanday, a self styled tehsil commander of Hizb operating in Doda since 2006, and Sajad Hussain, active since 2006, he said.
Two AK rifles and other ammunition were recovered from them, Acharya said.
