Two held for trying to sell depleted uranium bars in Thane
Mumbai, December 24: Two persons were today arrested for allegedly trying to sell depleted uranium (DU) bars in Thane. The duo was nabbed following a tip-off on December 20 while allegedly trying to sell three DU bars weighing 8.861 kg and the samples were sent to the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC).

“It (BARC report) shows that all these samples are radioactive,” an official from the Thane Police’s crime branch said.

As the unauthorised possession of active elements is a crime, a case was registered under the Atomic Energy Act- 1962 at Kasarvadawali police station and Kishor Prajapati and Saifullah Khan were arrested, he said.

Senior Police Inspector Ravindra Doiphode of the anti-chain snatching cell had received a tip-off that the duo was trying to sell unusual metal and was asking for Rs 3 crore per KG. A trap was laid at Ghodbundar Road in Thane and the duo was detained by the crime branch, but the offence was not registered pending the results of the lab tests.

During the investigation, it has been ascertained that the duo sourced the bars used in civil aviation from an aeroplane sent for scrap in 2006-07, but the police suspect that these were sourced from abroad.
According to officials, the duo had privately ascertained that the element is indeed depleted uranium before selling it, instead of informing the authorities.

Now that the radioactivity has been confirmed, sources said all the people who handled the metal will have to undergo medical tests for radioactive exposure.

And they are worrying about Iranian and Pakistani nuclear material EPIC fail by India.
Where is uncle SAM to question about nuclear material safety in India.
Face Palm.

What they will do with this Ur
Many applications including crude nuclear device to spread radiation which is equally difficult and hazardous as nuclear weapons in terms of radiation but not blast and heat.
Means very low direct deaths but same numbers after the blast due to radiation poisoning.

.
Any nuclear disaster to happen will find its roots in India..mark my words!

you should replace all the nukes in Pakistani arsenal with dirty bombs

. . .
There are two kinds of Pakistani nuclear jerk off fantasies

1 we will nuke India
2 India will nuke India through proliferation

All this while they ran an international nuke Wal-Mart, claimed only ONE person known for being a nuke thief ran it, closed the matter the day of his supposed admission, pardoned him the same night, celebrated him a hero.

Could you find more damaged and delusional warped minds?

Epic Fail.
This Depleted Uranium is from a Boeing 747 stabilizers and has zero relation to nuclear security.
The company, which has not been named, uses the product to help with the inspection of industrial pipes.

Depleted uranium is mildly radioactive in its solid form, and poses little cause for concern.

But it is a very heavy substance, 1.7 times denser than lead, and is commonly used on the tips of artillery shells to punch through heavy armour and also in parts of some airliners

Do you aware of term DU and radiation hazards associated with these materials?
Yes, simce the radiation hazard is very minor they do not fall under purview of nuclear security and thus are used in several civilian applications.
It is similar to sulphuric acid i.e. it can be harmful if contact without safety.
