Twitter claims to have blocked more than 88,000 user accounts. According to analyzes, these have tried to determine discussions in the sense of Saudi Arabia.
The short message service Twitter claims to have blocked more than 88,000 accounts with connections to Saudi Arabia. Internal analyzes had shown that the accounts were aimed at discussions related to Saudi Arabia, the US company said.
The accounts are said to have amplified messages that would have expressed themselves positively towards Saudi authorities, among other things through aggressive "liking" or "retweeting". It was a significant state-backed information operation that came from Saudi Arabia.
Data from over 5,000 blocked accounts published
The company released data on 5,929 of these accounts on Friday that violated platform guidelines. The data of the other accounts would not be published, among other things, for data protection reasons. A marketing company from Saudi Arabia is said to be behind the network of accounts. The company account was also permanently blocked.
In early November, the U.S. Department of Justice announced that two former Twitter employees were said to have been spying on government critics' private account information for Saudi Arabia.
