A New York television executive has been convicted of stabbing his wife to death and beheading her.

A jury found Pakistan-born Muzzammil Hassan guilty of second-degree murder in the 2009 death of Aasiya Hassan six days after she filed for divorce.

Hassan never denied killing her but said she had abused him and that he had acted in self-defence. He served as his own lawyer during the three-week trial.

Hassan, who founded a Muslim-oriented TV network, could face life in prison.

Prosecutors argued Hassan abused his wife and planned the attack in a hallway at Bridges TV, a satellite channel he set up in 2004 in an effort to counter negative portrayals of Muslims following the 9/11 terror attacks.

He was arrested in 2009 after he walked into a police station in the city of Buffalo, in upstate New York, and told officers his wife was dead.

Mrs Hassan, 37, had filed for divorce after enduring domestic violence, her lawyer told the Buffalo News newspaper in 2009.

The couple had been married for eight years and had two children.

In yet another decisive blow to the image of Muslims in general and Pakistanis in particular, the very person trying to counter 'negative stereotypes' is found guilty of beheading his wife. Could it get any more ironic?

. .
Prior to his marriage to Aasiya Zubair, Hassan was married twice before: first, to a Caucasian American woman, Janice, with whom he had two children, Michael and Sonia; second, for 13 months to a Pakistani-American Muslim woman, Sadia. According to Sadia's cousin, Zerqa Abid, both of his earlier wives filed for divorce on the same grounds of severe domestic violence and abuses.

In addition to the two children from his first marriage (ages 19 and 20), he has two children (a girl age 6 and a boy age 8) from his third marriage (to Aasiya).

This idiot deserved punished. I guess

Thanks for highlighting "Pakistan-born Muzzammil Hassan" in red!

Oh don't mention it. Rest assured that everyone else who reads this story (I mean in the states) will focus on precisely that aspect as well. We've had a string of incidents in the last year that are leading many people to believe that Pakistanis in particular are demonstrably incompatible with liberal western values. Spend sometime on the east coast and you'll know what I mean. Moving on though, far from some much needed soul searching and introspection, the Pakistani community here has focused its energies on pointing out 'Islamophobic/hypocritical' western attitudes.

If there ever was a time for change, its now. I see plenty of hullabaloo from 'Pakistani community leaders' on trivial, nonsensical issues as you have predictably illustrated, but a deafening silence when it comes to more pressing concerns like integration, radicalization and fundamentalism.

Good day.

Lol what a load of BS!!

I don't know what delusional world you're living in. But Pakistani's in the U.S are nothing like what you mentioned.Yes there are some crazy people out there, but unfortunately your Pakistani-hate is blinding you. I can find stories of indians doing horrible crimes, but does that mean all indians are like that? Most Pakistanis in the U.S integrate with society and are pretty successful.

SHOCKING CRIME: INDIAN HINDU MAN HIRES A HITMAN TO MURDER HIS SON'S WIFE ... JUST BECAUSE SHE'S BLACK!!
une 16, 2008. ATLANTA (AP) — A former math professor at a historically black university goes on trial Monday in Atlanta, charged with arranging the contract killing of his black daughter-in-law because she wasn't Indian.

As prosecutors prepare to try the death penalty case against Chiman Rai, their challenge will be to prove that Rai was so enraged over his son's marriage to a black woman that he paid $10,000 to have her killed in Georgia.

Rai, a native of India, brought his family to the U.S. in 1970. He taught math at Alcorn State University in Mississippi, later ran a supermarket and then bought a hotel in Louisville, Ky., where he hired Sparkle Michelle Rai as a clerk.

She fell in love with his son, Ricky, and the two were wed. Prosecutors say Chiman Rai paid two brothers $10,000 to kill his son's wife.

In April 2000 Sparkle Rai was found stabbed and strangled in her apartment in Union City, Ga. just steps away from her 7-month-old daughter, who was unharmed.

Rai's defense attorney did not immediately return calls for comment Friday, but he has insisted in court that his client is innocent. At a bond hearing in 2006, defense attorney Mike McDaniel called Rai "as stable of a person as you're going to find."

The case went unsolved until two witnesses came forward in 2004 and identified Cleveland Clark as the killer.

According to a 2006 indictment, Rai teamed up with Willie Fred Evans to serve as middlemen, and they soon passed the money to brothers Cleveland and Carl Clark .

Carl Clark drove the pair to Georgia from Mississippi and Cleveland Clark carried out the killing, prosecutors say.

Oh please, not this nonsense again.

Firstly, the bigoted westerners who stereotype muslims don't concentrate on whether this guy was Pakistani. They concentrate on his religion. Believe it or not, no matter how much you or some other bharatis like to point out stereotypes about bigotry against Pakistanis, that stereotyping is not just unique to Pakistanis but to muslims in general. Westerners don't look at whether the guy is from Pakistan, only Indians do. What they look at the religion, and here I am only talking about those who are bigoted.

Secondly, Pakistanis in US and Canada are not like Pakistanis in UK. They're much more liberal and assimilated. Westerners (again, the bigoted ones) don't even complain about Pakistanis in particular if they do, they complain about muslims in general.

Yes, I know some Indians would like to believe and want others to believe that this is unique to Pakistanis (ie. the stereotyping is unique to Pakistanis), but matter of fact is that it's not just unique to Pakistanis.

Furthermore, all this nonsense about integration, radicalization, fundamentalism among Pakistanis, how the Pakistani community should introspect. It's only Indians who discuss this. Says a lot really.

Using phrases such "if there was ever a time for change" really shows how uninformed and delusional you are.

This guy is a psycho control freak, regardless of his religion or ethnicity.

He beheaded her with a sword. Who the h*ll keeps a sword in his house?

.
Also, the fact that some people use bigotry against a certain group as a form of intimidation/making fun/etc against that same group really tells a whole lot about them.

you mean something like this? and good day? apparently not, BTW how is the weather in Edison?

Lol, not all of us live in Edison.

Also, I mean this.

Faisal Shazad
Aafia Siddiqui
Farooq Ahmed
Waqar Khan
Umer Farooq
Ahmed Abdullah Minni

to name a few...

We have bigots/criminals too, everyone does, what we don't have are homegrown terrorists and religious extremists. And yes, he beheaded his wife so that certainly gives it a religious angle in my perspective. Of course you're free to assume that no one else will think the same. BTW, are you the same guy who was trying to trivialize terrorism by comparing it to ordinary crime in another thread or is this a common recourse?

@Dance.

Perhaps it isn't as bad as it is in the UK, but I see the same sort of apathy in the Pakistani community here towards fundamentalism. Like I said, too much time and effort is spent on countering imaginary issues like 'Islamophobia'.

.
Btw, there are about 1,800 domestic violence homicides in US each year. How many exactly do get top coverage like this one?

I think so too. Pakistanis in US are well integrated . Cases of them involving crimes is very rare. The credit also goes to US for giving them the opportunity to integrate unlike UK, were they seem marginalized .

Damn! That's some way of getting rid of ones wife!!

Decisive blow?!

And i have been thinking a Pakistani (NOT Pakistan born) dude blowing himself right inside the Times Square would be a decisive blow.

BTW, it would have been more pertinent if you have said this would be quite a blow to the image of Pakistanis in general and Muslims in particular...

@SMC

My apologies to 'tareymareymarzi', it was you who tried to trivialize terrorism wasn't it?

Make no mistake the Pakistani community has been in the limelight for all the wrong reasons recently. Americans, generally speaking, are 'geographically impaired' so I definitely see your point. And yes, things aren't as bad as they are in the UK, but as I said in my post to 'tareymarzi' a lot of these incidents are/have been traced back to Pakistan so perceptions are most certainly changing.

Also, how often do you hear of someone beheading their wife?
