Turkish RPP to make history in expensive power generation

Updated at: 1657 PST, Saturday, November 20, 2010
LAHORE: The Rental Power Plant agreement with Turkey is the most expensive pact of Pakistan’s history and the first of the incumbent government, Geo News reported.

According to PEPCO sources, the government would have to raise power tariff by 2 percent every month for providing rent of this RPP, and the consumer would bear this burden instead of getting subsidy. They added that the power tariff would gradually reach to Rs15 per unit owing to this expensive RPP deal with Turkey.

A former PEPCO MD told that investors are reluctant to sign any deal with the present government over RPPs, adding that 1900MW electricity had been included in the national grid through pacts in Musharraf's regime and the present government is getting its credit.

Is this related to power ship which came to Karachi ?

When BB introduced IPP those were also the most expensive deals in the history of Pakistan.

Yes i think ------

Yaar this is too much... I can bet that there are much more cheaper ways to get power. RPPs are not rocket science ..if GOP put all his energy to get some gas based turbine then energy problems get resolved for short to medium term and by that time get some dams like KBD ready to generate power.

rental power is always expensive hence the name rental power which demonstrates short term arrangement.

More than rental power... it is the way in which it is being generated that makes it expensive. There are several captive power plants on land in India from where the national grid sources its power, but still within limits.

I think it has more to do with the fact that it is a generator unit on a ship and hence portable power which would be expensive. Hope this is not a long term rental.
