Turkish Health Ministry delegation calls on Shahbaz

LAHORE: Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that deep friendly and brotherly relations between Pakistan and Turkey are quickly transforming into trade and economic ties.

He said that a number of Turkish companies were working jointly with the Punjab government as a result of which friendship between the two countries was further strengthening. The chief minister also said that the Tayyip Erdogan Hospital in Muzaffargarh District that would start functioning from June 21 was an excellent gift by the Turkish government for the people of southern parts of Punjab Province.

According to a handout, the chief minister expressed these views while talking to a high-level delegation of the Turkish Health Ministry consisting of Foreign and European Union Affairs Director General Dr Oner Guner, Dr Hasan Baskaya and other senior officials.

Chief Minister Shahbaz said that the people and the government of Turkey set a glorious example of sacrifice and brotherhood by helping their Pakistani brethren in hour of distress during the 2010 flooding. He noted that the people and the government of Turkey worked round the clock to provide assistance to the victims of the natural calamity.

He said that the establishment of Tayyip Erdogan Hospital was an excellent example of best friendly relations between the two countries. The chief minister said that Tayyip Erdogan Hospital would be run like a trust hospital and that it would be made a model hospital in Pakistan.

He said that the Punjab government had taken solid steps to provide latest medical facilities to the people on their doorstep. He said that an effective strategy had been adopted to improve health care delivery system and that billions of rupees had already been spent for this purpose.

He said that special attention had been paid to improve facilities in existing hospitals besides building new ones.

Speaking on the occasion, members of the Turkish delegation said that they would share their experience with the Punjab government and would also cooperate with it in imparting training to doctors and other staff. The Turkish government would also provide assistance to Pakistan to carry out up-gradation of Muzaffargarh district headquarters hospital, they added.

Adviser to Chief Minister on Health Khawaja Salman Rafiq, Pakistani Ambassador to Turkey Muhammad Haroon Shaukat and other senior officials attended the meeting.
