As many of you have probably noticed a lot of the newest (and old) defence developments dont have a Wikipedia article, which is sad for many reasons. So I thought that maybe we could do that together.

First step would be to agree on articles that definitley should be on wikipedia and arent and in the next step we would agree on one topic and together write and article, images that could be used and ofcourse the proper sources.

I have never written an article on wikipedia and I'm not a native English speaker, so I'd welcome any support by those that are native speakers with grammar etc. and/or have experience with writing for wikipedia.

That being said: Who wants to contribute and which topics/articles should be adressed first?

Unfortunetly, i have no experience with wiki and my grammar is  but i can search/find sources.

Also, we need to decide on the sources....like source from twitter shouldn't be allowed..

We cant use twitter, this has to be on a fairly academic level.
Preferable sources are websites of the companies themselves or serious websites/magazines.

I like to think that I have a fairly good fluency in English. I have also updated some Wikipedia articles before, so I can help.
I think our priority should be updating existing articles with up-to-date information.
For starters, why don't you guys check the page of Anka and let me know what is missing/wrong (with sources of course), and I will update the page at my earliest convenience.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TAI_Anka#ANKA-TP_.28SIHA-_Strategic_Unmanned_Aerial_Vehicle.29

Anka TP has not a single source, stuff like that will be easily removed by a bot or admin when checked.

.
ln order to do that, we first need to be able to access Wikipedia :)

May I suggest creating a list, building up completed projects in various categories and then start building up source base.

This is not complete list, maybe we can pick and select and which is most important which is less important and which ones to ignore completely..

We can use outdated catalog as a starting point; http://www.ssm.gov.tr/urunkatalog/ and then gather sources for information..

I think Bayraktar UAV is the most complete, Roketsan Cirit is probably

As a principal, I don't write in forums, I only read. But this idea just got me excited and I would like to help with English and also if there are others we can translate them into Spanish too. I may even benefit by practicing my English and Spanish skills. You can count me in too when translation needed. Nights...

Thats already a lot of work and we could add companies to that list too that need an article or need to be updated with the latest developments or at least some basic information links to the projects:
- Aselsan
- Roketsan
- Havelsan
- TAI/TUSAS
- FNSS
- BMC
- Otokar
- the other dozen armored vehicle manufacturers I cant recall right now

. .
Maybe we should assign individual articles to individual members with recommendations as to what sources to use and answer any questions they may have before they begin. Have them write and publish the article here in PDF first. Then have the article peer reviewed by all of us to see if anyone would like to add/change anything. And then as a final step he/she publishes it to Wikipedia.

Someone could write to the various companies and ask for complete detailed information about the systems(anyone but me).

That would be perfect, except you can't publish that stuff on Wiki unless they publish it on their website first. (You need sources, you can't just claim you talked to the company). Which I am guessing they won't.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Many people expressed their opinions on how this should be done. While they are all good ideas, no one has put together a concrete and practical way of doing this.
So I will lay out my suggestion here and you guys let me know what you think about it.
We need to start from somewhere. Let's start with the existing articles, instead of adding new ones. We will create new threads for every article (For example: Wikipedia Update Project: TAI ANKA). We will paste the whole wikipedia page into that thread. Then people will come along and suggest corrections by providing valid sources. Other people will then go and post those updates to Wikipedia. Each reply to the thread will bear a tag, for example replies consisting of suggestions will have to start with #Suggestion and replies that confirm that a given suggestion is uploaded to wikipedia will start with #Updated.
This way no one person will be overburdened. And everyone will get to contribute.
If you like this idea give me thumbs up. If I get 5 thanks I will start the thread for Anka, otherwise we will wait for other people with better ideas.

Note: Sorry for my obsession with Anka, it's just that Anka is my favorite product :D

.
I can also help with the English. If anyone wants something edited or translated feel free either paste it here or link us to the Wiki you've edited.
