A good soldier must learn to plunder his surrounding. Everywhere where humans live. There are food and water. No need to carry that crap beside maybe on mountain missions. But also mountain missions are nonsense in the age of armed drones.
Just develop cost effective drones. Sensors to fool the cave monkeys.
