Turkish air chief visits PAF headquarters

ISLAMABAD: Commander Turkish Air Force General Hasan Aksay along with a three-member delegation visited the Air Headquarters on Tuesday. Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Rao Qamar Suleman received the distinguished guests. A contingent of Pakistan Air Force (PAF) presented the Guard of Honour to the Turkish commander on his arrival. Later, he was introduced to principal staff officers of the PAF. General Hasan also paid homage to the martyrs of PAF and laid a wreath on the Martyrs’ Monument. The Turkish commander discussed various professional matters with Rao Qamar Suleman. The delegation also attended a briefing at the headquarters of the organisation about the role and functioning of the PAF.

These visits are pre-planned, not for sale of any equipment. A month or so back Turkish Army Chief also visited Pakistan, he was even taken to Swat making him the first foreigner and military head to have gone there, which itself speaks the strong ties between both countries.

These are goodwill visits to promote stronger ties.

Soon, Turks will be given the NATO command over Afghanistan, and thus all the Nato troops including US troops will be under Turkish command. These visits and briefings are to take Turkish high command into confidence so that Turks can safeguard Pakistani Interests as well as securing and commanding Nato Troops in ****** region.

NATO command in Afghanistan keep changing on yearly basis, but the decision making will not of Turkey's. Plus majority of the US forces are not under NATO. ISAF is of NATO but majority of US forces are separate then NATO command, they are commanded by the Gen McCrystal.

President confers Nishan e Imtiaz (mly) on Turkish Air Force commander

ISLAMABAD, Dec 9 ; President Asif Ali Zardari on Wednesday conferred Nishan i Imtiaz (military) on General Hasan Aksay, Commander Turkish Air Force, who is on an official visit to Pakistan.The President conferred the award at a ceremony held at Aiwan e Sadr. Nishan i Imtiaz (military) has been conferred upon General Hasan Aksay, Commander Turkish Air Force for his services rendered to improve relations and cooperation between the two air forces.

The citation read out on the occasion said, “In view of his meritorious services and as a token of acknowledgement of his
personal contribution to strengthening the goodwill and cooperation between the two air forces, the President is pleased to confer Nishan i Imtiaz (Military) on General Hasan Aksay, Commander Turkish Air Force.”
Defence Minister Ch. Ahmed Mukhtar, Chief of the Air Staff Pakistan Air Force Air Chief Marshal Rao Qamar Suleman, Foreign Secretary Salman Bashir and Mustafa Babur Hizlan, Turkish Ambassador, were also present on the occasion besides high ranking officials and dignitaries of both the countries.
