Punjab Chief Minister, Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, said that Turkey has achieved unprecedented development and progress during the last few decades and has emerged as the 16th biggest economic power of the world. He said that Pakistan has to learn a great deal from Turkey in the crucial fields of economics and technology.
He said that brotherly ties between Pakistan and Turkey can be made even more economically fruitful by taking serious steps at the government level. He said that Turk Companies Albayrak and Ozbak are making investment of 600 million dollars in Punjab including Lahore and the new neat and tidy look being given by the roads of the provincial metropolis is the result of the tireless efforts of these Companies. He said that the agreement with Albayrak is not merely a commercial venture but is an agreement between two brothers and will prove to be a milestone in the existing friendly relations between Pakistan and Turkey. He said that this model of cleanliness will be replicated in other cities of the province as well.
The Chief Minister was addressing a reception given in his honour by the Turkish Company Albayrak, in the city of Istanbul, Thursday. Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif said that Metro Bus System is a great project in the history of Pakistan's transport, which is being completed with the co-operation of brotherly country of Turkey.
He said with the completion of Metro Bus System, the general public would be made available international quality, affordable and comfortable travelling facilities besides precious time of the citizens would be saved as a result of smooth flow of traffic. He said that the interaction between Punjab government and Turkey is not limited to Metro Bus Project only, as the provincial government is also benefiting from the expertise of Turkey in other sectors.
He expressed his satisfaction over the fact that the Turk government and Companies are taking keen interest in the development and prosperity of the people of Pakistan and it is in the interest of Pakistan to increase its volume of trade with Turkey. Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif said that there has been a manifold increase in co-operation and collaboration between Turkey and Punjab government during the last four years for which he is grateful to the President of Turkey Abdullah Gul and Turkish Prime Minister Rajab Tayyip Erdogan. The Chief Minister said that Mayor Istanbul Kadir Topbas considers provincial metropolis of Punjab as his own city and has extended vigorous co-operation to transform Lahore into a metropolitan city of international standard.
He said that the words of the Turkish President, Prime Minister and Mayor Istanbul regarding co-operation with Punjab have become a reality and the trade and economic agreements are a living example of this fact. The Chief Minister hoped that bilateral relations between the two brotherly countries would be further strengthened, as a result of his visit to Turkey.
