free trade means, literally, unhampered voluntary exchange of goods/services. Different currencies and labor laws don't necessarily prevent it.

If I were Trump I break diplomatic ties with China. China is a one party communist dictatorship. Unworthy of being a trade partner with the US. Back to the 1970s when China and America had 0 trade.
