President Donald Trump said on Thursday $34 billion in tariffs will kick-in against China at 12:01 a.m. EST on Friday morning. Another $16 billion are expected to go into effect in two weeks, he said.

Aboard Air Force One on his way to a rally in Montana, Trump told reporters he would consider further escalation, potentially imposing tariffs worth $500 billion should the Chinese government retaliate.

First “34, and then you have another 16 in two weeks and then as you know we have 200 billion in abeyance and then after the 200 billion we have 300 billion in abeyance. Ok? So we have 50 plus 200 plus almost 300," Trump said.

“It’s only on China," he added.

Trump's statements reinforce earlier threats that he would escalate the trade conflict. The dispute with China has roiled financial markets worldwide, including stocks, currencies and the global trade of commodities from soybeans to coal.

China has said it will not "fire the first shot", but its customs agency made clear on Thursday that Chinese tariffs on U.S. goods would take effect immediately after U.S. duties on Chinese goods kick in.

I think US will be in bigger loss on trade war as Chinese have market all over the world and can trade with more nations than USA in my opinion.

US may retaliate by imposing sanctions and force othere to avoid trade with China but China is already too large of an economy to be easily contained. In my opiniom US will damage her own economy and Chinese despite making less money from abroad will still be able to lead the world in manifacturing and producing cheap and quality goods

i think highest trade of china is with america .

While America might have more bullets in this trade war, I'd say don't underestimate the Chinese people's endurance for pain.

Their nationalism is on high alert, the Chinese people are united under the Communist party and won't tolerate another unequal treaty. America is deeply divided right now. It is in complete political turmoil with a coming midterm election and missing supreme court justice, Trump's voters will go bankrupt with the Chinese retaliatory tariffs. I bet it will be Trump who will blink first.

Why Cnese dont turn to support TW Govt. instead ? specially when CCP can not create enough jobs for hundred million workers under Trump's sanction ??

Pls note that its TW leader who lead CN to victory in WW2, not Mao.

A nation that gun is legal on street, you can imagine the outcome if US economy is in turmoil under the tariff war, China is already warning Chinese tourists the risk of traveling to US.

And why we don't support TW? no matter what people in Taiwan are Han. We had created unwanted job for Vietnamese in China, we only keep good job for Chinese, go learn you 101 economy.

You mean Chiang Kai Shek? And please tell me why China would every support the Taiwanese government, whose economy is 20 times smaller than that of the mainland???

Have fun Trump. Now I do wonder whether Ivanka's clothing line or Trump merchandise will be exempted from these tariffs cause they're MADE IN CHINA.

I’m actually amazed that America is in an economic war with the rest of the world and they are still standing. What is it about their economy that makes them so resilient?

America has incurred an annual trade deficit of $300 billion usd with china of course a trade war will hurt china and benefit America. now America can use that $300 billion trade deficit with china and give it to other worthwhile allies like japan and south korea and make them stronger economically.

I already said, trade with America is a privilege, not a right. no country in the world can replace American market for the Chinese. name me which country that can give china $300 billion usd of trade surplus every year? the answer is NONE. the Chinese will crap in their pants knowing that from now on, they will lose an annual of $300 billion usd dollars and that $300 billion usd is going into the hands of south korea and japan; meaning more F-35 for those countries.

dollar has reached its 3 weeks low value .u.s will face shortage of necessary goods and inflation.their public will badly suffer and become poor
