Triple Talaq: Supreme Court To Pronounce Verdict On Tuesday

Five judge bench of the Supreme Court will the pronounce verdict on triple talaq on Tuesday. Five judges from five different religions will pronounce the verdict, out of which three will give different judgements. The other two will conform with one of the three judgements.

In December last year, the Allahabad High Court termed the Islamic practice of divorcing a woman by uttering the word "talaq" thrice as "unconstitutional".

The court further observed that the triple talaq practice sanctioned under Muslim Personal Law that governs marriage, property, and divorce violates the rights of Muslim women.

"Triple talaq is unconstitutional. It violates the rights of Muslim women," ruled the High Court, adding that no personal law board was above the Constitution.

I'd like Indian Muslim women to be more empowered.

But somehow I feel thanks to the BJP and the Sangh, this will be seen as Hindus poking Muslims.

And not a nation protecting its vulnerable people.

That's my honest opinion.

Simply put, the BJP has lost the faith and goodwill of non Hindu India.

They are two big and too diverse. With highly conflictive interests.

Since they constitute 4/5 of India, they are not threatened.

The absence of an existential threat is the death of a vote bank.

Instead what the BJP has done is coalesce 6% to the existing 14% Muslim vote bank which will now vote anti Modi en bloc.

The part of the 4/5 that will not vote for Modi and did not vote for Modi even in 2014 will get added to that 1/5.

We are heading for coalition politics once more. Till the Congress picks itself up and reinvents itself.

Shias are already switching to BJP, and once triple talaq issue is solved I am sure enough Muslim females will accept BJP. It's not only Hindus who can be divided among castes or language basis it can be done the other way too and considering BJP now has caged parrot with them this transition will be smoother than ever.

When the British banned Sati they did not think what Indians thought. They banned it.
The BJP should do what is right. Throw in a few Muslim clerics who oppose reform in prison.

But the difference is that Sunni are not attacking and killing Shias in India unlike the caste wars among the Hindus.

In UP and Bihar, it's more caste than communal. Though I admit it's been 28 years I've been away ...

Do you remember how BJP lost the power over 1 single vote back in the good ol' days? Party in power has a upper hand during coalition politics, we both are here and this travesty meted to BJP is still unpaid and remember Baniyas pay their dues with interest.

What is non-hindu. Technically all of Indians are hindus. Indian muslims are referred to as Hindus in gulf. Second even biologically all native muslims are hindus.

Yesterday I was watching a debate on Republic. One woman said the same thing. There was this Mullah. He literally became red in the face hearing that Polygamy should be targetted next
